Council Corner - News - Beth Ringeisen and Christine Heath will be leaving

their positions as Sunday School Superintendents at the end of the spring term. We thank them for their service. It is important that replacements be found prior to the end of their tenure for a smooth transition.

ANNUAL PICNIC HELP NEEDED The annual outdoor service and church picnic are fast approaching (June 5th) and plans are underway for a wonderful event. We will be having a cake walk and seek cake bakers (or buyers if baking is not your thing). The Hospitality Committee also needs help with set-up and clean-up for the picnic. Setup starts at 9:45am; cleanup at about 12:45pm As always, plan to bring chairs and a potluck dish to share. We’ll have burgers and hotdogs (and veggie burgers, too)! Many hands make light work… Please let Ann Byer know how you can help or sign up in the hallway by this Sunday. [email protected] or 484-678-6445. Gwen and Ann appreciate it!

Working with Brian Hillestad and his involvement with our veterans, we are collecting light outwear clothing that is still in good condition. They will be distributed to local vets and their families in the community. If you’re able to help, please put your donations on the hangers in the upstairs coat rack outside the choir room. Close Encounters of the Jesus Kind We are doing it again! A 6-week worship series, with weekly discussion groups to study, reflect, and share. And YOU are invited to join in. Sign up to be part of a small group – physical or virtual – and also indicate if you’d like to purchase your own study book ($8.50). Sunday worship/sermon themes will run from June 5 through July 10. Classes meet on the session following the Sunday sermon.

DVCCC Drive for Welcome Bags Many, many thanks to all who emptied the Giving Tree of the personal care products tags for the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County Emergency Shelter "Welcome Bags." A reminder to return the items no later than Sunday, June 12, and place them in the Domestic Violence bin in the hallway.

Fabric Kits Being Assembled As part of Giving Sundays, Sunday School and Thrivent are assembling fabric kits for Lutheran World Relief. The kits are used to teach women in a 3rd world country a trade and become wage earners. Each kit contains two pieces of fabric and 2-3 spools of thread. If you would like to contribute to this project, we are in need of the following:

- Spools of thread-neutral colors-200 -300 yards of thread each (full spools only) - 2 ¼ yards of 60 inch cotton or cotton blend fabric - 3 yards of 44/45 inch cotton or cotton blend fabric - 4 yards of 36 inch cotton or cotton blend fabric

None of the items need to match; you can contribute one or more of the items. Place your contributions in the bin under the table in the hallway.

SHiNe is coming !! WHEN?? Saturday, July 9th — 10 AM

Join the Love Does team and many others and help serve and package over 20,000 meals to be sent around the world to help Stop Hunger Now. This will be our 6th event and after this one we will have packaged close to 150,000 meals thanks to all of you who have supported ShiNe over the past three years.

Sign up in the narthex, and please help support SHiNe financially. Every meal we package costs 29 cents. That’s close to $6,000 to support this event. How to give? You can put money in the jar in the narthex, or write a check to St. Paul’s and note it is for SHiNe or you can designate money on your Simply Giving form to go to SHiNe.

Taken from the moving and beautiful peroration from Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address – in which he reminded his contemporaries151 years ago that every American has an obligation and responsibility to support the care of the military families of loved ones killed in action – one of our oldest and most noble traditions. He said:

With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation’s wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan–to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.

These words are as important today as when Lincoln first uttered them in1865. Let us never forget them.
