NEXT SUNDAY AT THE 5PM MASS We welcome Daniel Cardinal DiNardo to St. Paul to preside at the 5 PM Mass next Sunday and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for our young people.

The next Silver Linings Bible Study will be at 1 PM on Thursday, May 18th.

Ministry of the Week: Lector “The Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue that I may know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them.” (Isaiah 50:4)

We as Catholics believe that Christ is present is the Scriptures, His Word spoken, heard and acted upon. The role of the Scripture readings at Mass is of vital importance, and those who proclaim them (called “lectors”) are key ministers in our celebrations. The ministry of Lector is a charism (gift) that builds up the whole community. It requires abilities such as confidence, poise, and good reading skills. Willingness to study and pray the Scriptures are even greater necessities.

Training is provided so that so that the Word itself, not the Lector, is highlighted. A workbook is also provided so that each reading can be well understood – and difficult words can be pronounced correctly. Any fully initiated adult or teen can become a lector by contacting Pauline Liggio, Lector Coordinator, at [email protected]

Indulgence Opportunities during the Centennial Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady in

Fatima, Portugal

Pope Francis has granted a plenary indulgence opportunity for the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions through November 26, 2017. There are two ways to obtain the indulgence (in addition to making a pilgrimage to Fatima itself): 1. To the faithful who visit with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly exposed for public veneration in any church, oratory or proper place during the days of the anniversary of the apparitions, the 13th of each month from May to October 2017, and there devoutly participate in some prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary. In addition, the faithful must pray the Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima. 2. To the faithful who, because of age, illness or other serious cause, are unable to get around, may pray in front of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima and must spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations on the days of the apparitions, the 13th of each month, between May and October 2017. They must also “offer to merciful God with confidence, through Mary, their prayers and sufferings or the sacrifices they make in their own lives.” To obtain the plenary indulgence, the faithful must also fulfill the ordinary conditions: go to Confession and Communion, be interiorly detached from sin, and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.

1) a los fieles piadosos que visiten con devoción una imagen de Nuestra Señora de Fátima expuesta solemnemente a la veneración pública en cualquier templo, oratorio o lugar adecuado, en los días del aniversario de las apariciones (día 13 de cada mes desde mayo a octubre de 2017), y ahí participen devotamente en alguna oración en honor a la Virgen María, recen la oración del Padrenuestro, reciten el Credo e invoquen a Nuestra Señora de Fátima;

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living “The Way” taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the faith and deepen their knowledge of God’s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have learned along the way.

Thank you to everyone that contributed to our annual fundraiser and Spaghetti dinner. It was a wonderful success. We are in our last month of the school year. We must have had fun because time flew by. Teachers are now gearing up for our end of the year prayer celebrations.

Next on our agenda is Rainforest Romp. It is not too late to enroll your little one in this fun adventure.

We are currently enrolling for Summer Enrichment. This year’s Enrichment will be “Rainforest Romp”. Your child will be

able to explore the mysteries of the rainforest without ever leaving the classroom. The cost of this week long adventure is $100 with a $25 supply fee. The dates are June 5th-9th. Registration forms can be found in the Narthex.

So the question of “What are we going to do this summer?” begins.

Here are just a few suggestions to keep you and your little one busy having fun.

Get a green thumb: Go to a local nursery with your child. Purchase some seeds and plant them for a vegetable or flower garden. Potted gardens are great if you do not have the yard space.

Play teacher: Reverse rolls and you play the pupil allowing your child to be the teacher.

Start an ant farm: There is much to be learned and discussed from watching these little buggers. Discuss with your child things you witness, teamwork, overcoming obstacles in your path, and being industrious.

Most of all have fun!
