STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples to “not let your hearts be troubled or afraid”. In these modern times, this message is so important. It’s so easy to get caught up in the spirit of fear and dread. We are called to be an Easter people sharing the Gospel with joy in our hearts. Am I sharing my gifts from a place of joy? Am I grateful
for all of the blessings God has given me?

Father Bob’s Corner . . . Dear Friends,
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
-Revelation 22: 17; 20!
On this Sixth Sunday of Easter, I have decided that we should use the option of taking the Second Reading and Gospel from the Seventh Sunday of Easter. That option is available because we, like most Catholics in dioceses in the United States, celebrate the Feast of the Ascension next Sunday – instead of the Thursday which is 40 days after Easter. Since we would not hear the readings of the Seventh Sunday of Easter, the Second Reading and Gospel from the Seventh Sunday of Easter may be chosen for this week. We, as Catholics, are enjoying the last weeks of the Easter Season, moving toward the Feast of Pentecost on May 15. The Jewish Feast of Passover will have ended at sundown on Saturday, April 30. Easter Sunday is being celebrated by Orthodox Christians this Sunday, May 1. A lot of religious holidays are occurring or have occurred. In the days from the traditional date for the Ascension, this year May 5, until Pentecost, the Church prays with Mary for the coming of the Holy Spirit. So we are able to pray, “Come, Holy Spirit;” and with the Holy Spirit, the Church, the bride, prays, “Come, Lord Jesus.” Our participation in these prayers enables us to receive the Holy Spirit, participate in the life of Jesus, and become witnesses to the world that the Father has loved us, who are Jesus’ disciples, even as he has loved Jesus. All of you are welcome to come to our May Crowning this Wednesday, May 4, at 6:00 pm, in St. Paul Church. We will honor our Blessed Mother and be off to a good start for the Feast of Pentecost. May crowning at St. Patrick Church is coming up on either May 8 or 15. More of the 56 Ways to Be Merciful During the Jubilee Year of Mercy: 22) Instead of losing patience with someone online (or in person), try to hear that person’s fear. Ask God for what Solomon asked for: “an understanding heart.” 23) Offer to drive an elderly person to Mass. 24) Recall a time you were not given the benefit of the doubt, and extend one to someone else. 25) Put down the phone and really listen to someone else. With eye contact. See more at: http://aleteia.org/2015/12/07/54-ways-to-be-merciful-during-the-jubiliee-year-of-mercy/ I am happy to be finishing my letter to you while I am on vacation for five days. While I have the idea of resting, I am filling my time with a few fun appointments. I will see you in church. Come Holy Spirit! Lord Jesus, help us to be “Merciful Like the Father.”
With love and prayers, Father Bob Edwards

Encountering Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration
Do you want the Lord to give you many graces? Visit Him often. Do you want Him to give you few graces? Visit Him rarely. Do you want the devil to attack you? Visit Jesus rarely in the Blessed Sacrament. Do you want him to flee from you? Visit Jesus often! - (St. John Bosco)
National Day of Prayer The National Day of Prayer will be held in Salem on Thursday, May 5, at Noon on the lawn of the Chamber of Commerce building. The theme for this year’s event is “Wake up America”.

The Masses that weekend will be offered for all Mothers, Living & Deceased, in honor of Mother’s Day.

Be Still and Know that
I am God
It takes me some time, Lord, to actually settle down, take a few deep breaths, relax and really be still in your presence.
Real prayer comes when I put on the brakes, pull off my day’s highway, step aside
from my schedule, make a place to be quiet and still, clear some space in my mind and, in my heart’s chapel, wait: and I wait for you.
I wait for your presence beside me, around me, and especially within me, and only
in the stillness. In the quiet will I find you, and though I wait to find you, Lord, I know that first – you wait for me.
You wait for me to slow my step, and find you by my side. You wait for me to nod my thoughts in your direction, to tip my heart towards you, when I am grateful, to open my soul’s windows to your Spirit.
You wait all day and night for me to call your name. In the quiet, in the stillness, let me find peace, even in the waiting: in my waiting for you, and your waiting for me. I know that first – you wait for me.
In the quiet, in the waiting, in the prayer, and in the peace, help me see that you are my heart’s desire that, when I find my joy in you, I’ve found everything I need. In your love for me you’ve given more than all my mind and heart and soul, might hold. Amen
