Merry Christmas!

With love, prayers, and gratitude,

Father Bob Edwards

I want to suggest to you a prayer for everyday use as we enter the New Year 2019. It is a beautiful way to acknowledge God at the beginning of the day.

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen.

Father Bob’s Corner .

Dear Friends,

But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathah least among the clans of Judah,

from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel; Whose origin is from of old, from ancient times.

- Micah 5:1 (USCCB online)

The Messiah will come from the line of King David. His origins will be humble, but also, from “of old.”

During Advent we have waited and celebrated together the feasts of Our Lady and the Saints. The Lord has shown us mercy in our celebrations of the Advent Communal Penance Services and individual Confessions. We have had parties, soup & bake sale, craft show, concerts and breakfasts (don’t forget the one Sunday morning at St. Patrick Parish after Mass). Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and on Tuesday we will rejoice to celebrate our Savior’s Incarnation.

At home you may wish to celebrate Jesus’ birthday with your children and a cake; but liturgically, the mystery we celebrate is much more, and not to be confused with a birthday. So, I encourage those, who so desire, to enjoy a home-style celebration of a birthday. Introduce your children to the mystery as a birthday, but try to see beyond that and tell the children that it is much more.

In Mexico and parts of the US on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, groups of dancers (called Matachines) dance in honor of Mary. St. Paul has its own group who were part of the entrance procession for Mass on December 8th. They also danced at the Spanish Mass on December 9th.

Life Ministry wishes to extend a thank you to everyone who worked, baked, donated & purchased baked goods at our bake sale last Saturday. The Knights of Columbus breakfast, our bake sale, the Friendship Circle soup sale & the craft sale was a huge success

thanks to the generosity of our parish. We were amazed at the amount of the beautifully baked items donated by our parishioners who shared their time, talent, & treasure. The event was enjoyed by all who worked and attended.

The Family of Marlene Santini wants to thank all those who served for the Mass & funeral buffet. Everyone was very kind and supportive.

12 Christmas Gifts for You!

FAITH “Faith is to believe what you do not see;

the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.”

-Saint Augustine of Hippo

HOPE “Pray, hope and don’t worry. Worry is

useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.”

-St. Pio of Pietrelcino

LOVE “What does love look like? It has the

hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of people. That is what

love looks like.” -St. Augustine of Hippo

FORGIVENESS “The weak can never forgive.

Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” -

-Mahatma Gandhi

MERCY “Extend your mercy towards others, so that

there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should

withdraw His Mercy from us?” -St. Vincent de Paul

KINDNESS “Kindness has converted more people

than zeal, science, or eloquence.” -St. Teresa of Calcutta

GENEROSITY “Give something, however small,

to the one in need. For it is not small to one who has nothing. Neither is it small to God, if we have given what

we could.” -St. Gregory Nazianzen

COMPASSION “Compassion begins at home, and

it is not how much we do but how much love we put in that action. Do not think that love has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. -St. Teresa of Calcutta

JOY “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;

where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where

there is sadness, joy.” -St. Francis of Assisi

PRAYER “Pray as though everything depended on

God. Work as though everything depended on you.”

-St. Augustine of Hippo

PEACE “Keep close to the Catholic Church at all

times, for the Church alone can give you true peace, since she alone possesses Jesus, the true Prince of Peace, in

the Blessed Sacrament.” -St. Pio of Pietrelcino

PATIENCE “Patience is power. Patience is not an

absence of action; rather it is timing; it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.” -Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
