THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME LIFE EVERLASTING
The second book of Maccabees tells a powerful story, and a rather gruesome one at that. But central to it, beyond the horrible deaths inflicted upon the brothers and their mother, is their belief in the promise of resurrec on and life everlas ng in God. Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray for him as he spreads Christ’s message of love, so that he might be delivered from other nonbelievers anxious to do him harm. The apostle is confident in such prayer, just as he is confident in the everlas ng support of Jesus and God the Father. And there’s that “everlas ng” word again. The Sadducees, not buying the idea, ask Jesus an interes ng—albeit meaningless—ques on about the status of married life at the Resurrec on. He
tells the non-believers that marriage isn’t an issue for the risen children of God. More importantly, he assures them that their ancestors do live on in God, even as evidenced by the Father’s words to Moses. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
We are called to demonstrate Catholic social teaching and carry out Jesus’ mission to “bring glad dings to the poor . . . to proclaim liberty to cap ves and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18). The weekend of November 12 and 13 we will have the opportunity to be
the voice of hope for those on the margins of society who experience the reali es of living in poverty by assis ng the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).
The CCHD was founded by the U.S. bishops in an effort to break the cycle of poverty in our country by funding educa onal, community and voca onal projects. This collec on is the primary source of funding for CCHD’s many an -poverty educa on programs and grants.
Because of your prayers and financial generosity we are able to directly address the needs of those who so o en feel lost or abandoned by society. Beyond charitable assistance, we seek to educate and empower the individual so that they can escape from the cycle of poverty. Thank you for all that you have done and con nue to do to help our sisters and brothers in need. With gra tude for your con nued generosity and every prayerful wish, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito Bishop of Palm Beach
