St Patrick’s Day 21

The Bricklayer’s Song (TeeJay to sing – Everybody play) Ok, F/ Here’s a song about an Bb/ Irishman who had a C/ bit of bad luck F/ And I’ve been [F] told that this is a true story… Dear [F] Sir I write this note to you to C/ tell you of my F/ plight For Bb/ at the time of F/ writing it I'm [C] not a pretty sight Bb/ My body is all F/ black and blue, C/ my face a deathly Bb/ grey And I F/ write this note to Bb/ tell you why I am C/ not at work to- [F] day [F] While working on the fourteenth floor some C/ bricks I had to F/ clear But Bb/ tossing them down from F/ such a height was [C] not a good idea The Bb/ foreman wasn't F/ very pleased he C/ is an arkward Bb/ sod And he F/ said I had to Bb/ cart them down the C/ ladder in me [F] hod Now [F] shifting all these bricks by hand it C/ was so very F/ slow So I Bb/ hoisted up a F/ barrel and [C] se- cured a rope below But Bb/ in me haste to F/ do the job, I C/ was too blind to Bb/ see That a F/ barrel full of Bb/ building bricks was C/ heavier than [F] me [F#] And [F#] so when I untied the rope the C#/ barrel fell like F#/ lead And B/ clinging tightly F#/ to the rope I [C#] started up instead I B/ shot up like a F#/ rocket, and to C#/ my dismay I B/ found That F#/ halfway up I B/ met the bloody C#/ barrel coming [F#] down Well the [F#] barrel broke me shoulder as C#/ to the ground it F#/ sped And B/ when I reached the F#/ top I banged the [C#] pulley with me head But I B/ clung on tightly F#/ numb with shock from C#/ this almighty B/ blow While the F#/ barrel spilled out B/ half it's bricks some C#/ fourteen floors be- [F#] low [F#] When these bricks had fallen from the C#/ barrel to the F#/ floor I B/ then outweighed the F#/ barrel and so [C#] started down once more But I B/ clung on tightly F#/ to the rope me C#/ body racked with B/ pain And F#/ halfway down I B/ met the bloody C#/ barrel once a- [F#] gain [G] Now the [G] force of this collision halfway D/ down the office G/ block Caused C/ multiple ab- G/ rasions and a [D] nasty case of shock But I C/ clung on tightly G/ to the rope as D/ I fell towards the C/ ground And I G/ landed on the C/ broken bricks the D/ barrel had scattered [G] round. [G] Now as I lay there on the ground I D/ thought I'd passed the G/ worst But the C/ barrel hit the G/ pulley wheel and [D] then the bottom burst A C/ shower of bricks rained G/ down on me I D/ didn't have a C/ hope For G/ as I lay there C/ bleeding I let D/ go of the bloody [G] rope [G] The barrel being unsecured then D/ started down once G/ more And it C/ landed right a- G/ cross me as [D] I lay there on the floor It C/ broke three ribs and G/ my left arm and D/ I can only C say pause That I G/ hope you under- C/ stand why Murphy’s D NOT at work to- G day
