Parish Penance Service

Monday, March 26 ~ 7PM

Following a brief prayer service there will

be ten priests available for Confession.

Who would have thought that the crowd which

welcomed Jesus with such enthusiasm during his entry

into Jerusalem would turn against him so quickly

within days and demand his crucifixion? Their

welcome, praise, and shouts for Jesus were short-lived

and superficial. Their support for him reminds me of

bandwagon fans. It was easy to be part of a crowd that

welcomed Jesus and it was easy to be part of a crowd

that condemned him to death.

What part of the crowd are we when it comes to our

sacramental life – to our life and relationship with

Jesus – to our following the Ten Commandments and

the social teachings of the Church? It is easy to be part

of the crowd that receives First Holy Communion – the

excitement of the day, getting dressed up, a party after.

It is easy to be part of the crowd that receives

Confirmation – choosing a name and a sponsor and

being blessed by the bishop. But, how many of that

crowd come to meet Jesus during Mass every Saturday

night or Sunday? It is easy to be part of the crowd that

puts on an impressive display for a funeral or wedding

or a baptism. How many of that crowd come to meet

Jesus on Saturday night or Sunday?

It is easy to be part of the crowd. But in the account of

the Passion the crowd was not there for Jesus when he

needed them most. The crowd did not go to the cross.

The crowd abandoned Jesus. Only a few women and

John went to the cross. So much for the crowd!

During the week ahead meditate on the Passion of

Jesus, let it become a source of healing for you. Do not

waste this week. Come to the Mass of the Lord’s

Supper on Holy Thursday, the celebration of the

Lord’s Passion on Good Friday and Easter Vigil on

Holy Saturday night. Be a part of the crowd that

celebrates and rejoices in Jesus’ resurrection and in his

sacrifice and love for us.

Have a blessed Holy Week!

Patricia O’Donnell

Tenebrae Service of Darkness

Tuesday, March 27 ~ 7:00PM

Tenebrae is an evening worship service of

darkness. We experience a small portion of

Christ’s pain and suffering the day of His

crucifixion. One notable feature of the service is

the gradual extinguishing of the candles until

only a single candle, considered a symbol of our

Lord, remains. At the end of the service the

Christ candle is hidden, typifying the apparent

victory of the forces of evil over good.

Building and Appeal Update…. Our Growing Together as a Family of Faith Appeal is gaining

momentum as we prepare for our growing community. The first phase of our project is the renovations of the building at

131-133 Channing Avenue and those renovations are well underway. The inside of the building has been completely stripped of all unnecessary

walls, stairs, windows, hallways and doors. As you can see, the outside is also having its own makeover.

The target date for opening the New Office is early fall.

The four-phased project will cost $6 million and fundraising has begun. Throughout the last few months of the “silent phase” of the appeal we have achieved 35% of our goal. Soon after Easter we will enter into the

public phase of our fundraising efforts. Thank you for your prayers and support of our parish.

Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible

understand the Bible. It helps you

discover the story woven throughout

Scripture and gives you the “big picture”

of the Bible and understand what it is all

about. The Bible is a story about the Father’s unfailing love

for you - a love that you are now called to share with

others. You will:

• Make sense of the Bible and see how it relates to your everyday life

• Discover the remarkable connections between the Old and New Testaments

• See how the sacraments, the Church and our entire Catholic Faith are rooted in Scripture… and much more! Contact Dan Milani ([email protected] or

610-647-2345) for more information and to reserve your spot today! Suggested donation $20.00.
