Mass Intentions

Week of September 13, 2020 The Sanctuary Candle burns

in memory of:

William D. Neville

Blessed Mother Candle burns

for the intentions of:

the PREP Community

The St. Joseph Candle burns

in memory of:

Edward Grady

A few years ago I had the great privilege of having Msgr. Joseph Esseff direct my yearly retreat. Monsignor Esseff has been a priest since 1953, had served as a retreat director and confessor for St. Teresa of Calcutta and had St. Padre Pio as a spiritual father for some years. I had never met Monsignor prior to my retreat, but had heard all of these stories of him and was in awe of his life’s journey with Christ. So, when I was told that he would be directing my retreat, I felt blessed, but at the same time a little intimidated. I entered that retreat feeling burdened in many ways, overwhelmed, desolate and certainly feeling far from the Lord’s merciful embrace. It was at the very first meeting with Msgr. Esseff, though, that I felt he could almost see into my soul, it was as if he knew, before I had the courage to share with him, all that was in my heart. At each meeting he would gently lead me to the realization that time and time again I receive the infinite mercy and forgiveness of the Father. There is no limit to His forgiveness, His mercy, His compassion for me. During those days of retreat, and still today, a gratitude for that untiring forgiveness wells within me. It seems fitting today, as we recall the disciples asking the Lord how often they must forgive, that I am reminded of the power of that retreat, as well as the power of God’s forgiveness. Perhaps today it is an opportunity for each of us to recall the many times we have been forgiven; the times we have received an outpouring of mercy from the Lord. It’s comforting to know that His mercy isn’t offered only seven times, but rather is freely shared with us without limit. Wouldn’t it be frightening if there was a limit to God’s forgiveness, or His mercy? One afternoon, while celebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation, Monsignor Esseff shared with me the following Act of Contrition. I now share it with you. May this day be one when we, as sinners, turn to the Lord, and rest gently in His mercy.

An Act of Contrition: Forgive me my sins, O Lord,

forgive me my sins; the sins of my youth, the sins of my age, the sins of my soul, the sins of my body,

my idle sins, my serious voluntary sins, the sins I know and the sins I do not know;

the sins I have concealed so long, and which are now hidden from my memory.

I am truly sorry for every sin, mortal and venial,

for all the sins of my childhood up to the present hour.

I know my sins have wounded Thy Tender Heart,

O my Savior, let me be freed from the bonds of evil through the most bitter passion

of my Redeemer. Amen

God Bless You, Father Redcay

Family Faith at Home

We hold all of our PREP families close in prayer as we begin a new and different year of Religious Education this week. Please pray for all of our parish children as we all move forward in faith!

Maintenance Projects North Wall of Parish Center

The north wall of the Parish Center has experienced water damage and needs to be sealed. You may have notice the machinery beside the school digging out a trench along the wall. The wall has been repaired and the ground has been regraded to mitigate the drainage problem.

Church Steps

For sometime now the front porch and steps of the Church have been deteriorating. Starting in September the porch at the Main Entrance will be demolished and rebuilt. The new porch will include an ADA compliant ramp, better traction, lighting upgrades. For those who need a ramp there will be a temporary ramp installed in the back doors to the sanctuary adjacent to the rear driveway by the cemetery.

Sacraments First Holy Communion

As a result of the pandemic closures this past spring, the celebration of our parish’s First Communions were postponed. We are excited to share that they have been rescheduled for September 26th and October 3rd. Please pray for our very patient First Communion children who have been waiting since April for their special day. We all share in their joy for this special time in the lives of these young Catholics.

Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation,

Saturdays between 9:30AM and 10:30AM.

Mass Cards

Since the parish office is continuing to limit visitors, we are asking those in need of a Mass card or an announced Mass to submit their request online before visiting the parish office. Kindly fill out the form (found at the link below) so that we can process and prepare the Mass Card before you arrive. Please note, that requested dates can not be guaranteed as the Mass Book fills up very quickly in the beginning of the year.

Catechetical Sunday Thank you, Catechists!

Next Sunday, September 20th, the Church throughout the United States will celebrate annual Catechetical Sunday. The theme for this year is “I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you”. We take a moment to thank God for the gift of His Word and teaching that is for all of us…child and adult. We thank God also for inviting us into relationship with Him through prayer and knowledge of Him. But God uses us, His human creatures, to be His hands, eyes and heart on earth. And so, the faith needs to be taught and passed on from one generation to the next. Therefore, it is especially important to thank and honor those men and women from St. Patrick Parish who offer their time, talent, lived faith and love of God to our parish children…our teachers of the faith. Thanks to all of you who said “YES” to this ministry in our parish! May God bless you!
