ENGLISH

Many people make sacrifices to keep themselves in good

physical condition through dieting, exercise, gym member-

ships and personal trainers. You can’t help but marvel at the

5am jogger or the lunchtime walkers. Commitment to a physi-

cal routine helps build endurance, muscle tone and better

health.

Lent is our time to get into better spiritual shape. Once we

have determined the areas of our life where we need improve-

ment, a spiritual routine will help us build spiritual endurance,

resistance to sin and better spiritual health. Prayer, works of

charity, practicing virtues and a personal commitment to faith

are the best remedies to habitual sin, poor Christian attitude,

and a failure to pray. A good Lenten practice will strengthen our awareness of God, our sense of faith and grati-

tude and our willingness to do good.

The decision to do something for Lent needs to be more than an endurance contest to quit something or give

something up. Our focus is to grow in faith, to be better Catholics, and to practice what we believe. It is not

about what we do, but who we are and what we become. What you do for Lent is answered by who you are for

Easter.

Hoy el evangelio no recuerda las tentaciones de Jesús

tentaciones que todos tenemos a lo largo de nuestra

vida y a las que no debemos sucumbir porque nos

apartamos del camino de Dios.

Jesús superó todas las tentaciones que el diablo le

puso porque estuvo atento a la voz del Padre. No an-

tepuso su egoísmo, ni su vanidad. En todo momento

pensó en el Reino de Dios como proyecto de paz y

justicia para todos.

También nosotros tenemos la herramienta necesaria

par atravesar el desierrto: La Palabra de Dios. Pero

preferimos hacer oídos sordos, poner por delante nues-

tras necesidades; tener pan no sólo para hoy, sino para

mañana, para pasado, para el futuro, aunque éste se

ponga duro y haya que tirarlo. Nos importa poco que

haya personas que mueren diariamente por no tener un

trozo de pan, no tener trabajo, vivienda, ni ese bienes-

tar que sólo parece pertenecer a unos pocos.

Tomemos conciencia de que para que el mundo sea

más humano, tenemos que dejar de consumir por con-

sumir. De poner fronteras para aquellos que buscan

tener lo más esencial: una vida digna.

Ahora es el momento de cambiar nuestras actitudes,

nuestra cerrazón y ser cristianos que abrimos los ojos

a la realidad que nos rodea. Es hora de empezar a tra-

bajar para hacer un mundo más solidario, equitativo y

justo.

Todos tenemos cabida en él. Todos tenemos derecho a

una vida digna.
