Dear Parishioners,

This week in the Gospel we continue to hear from the sixth chapter of Mark. Jesus had just returned to His native place and was not accepted or appreciated by the people because they knew Him from His youth. He then prepares to send His disciples out two by two in order to continue His mission. By our Baptism, we are also called to be Jesus’ disciples and apostles. We are first disciples (followers) and then apostles (leaders and teachers) of the Lord and are therefore called to go out into the world like those first disciples to bring the Good News of Christ to all that we encounter. Like those who were sent forth by Jesus to proclaim the Good News, we are sent forth to be an example of faith and love to those that we encounter. It is the Good News of God’s love that we teach and profess in the world by our words and especially our actions. My prayer this week is that we may all go forth and truly and lovingly profess and proclaim our faith by what we say and do. We are all responsible for being an example of God’s love in and for the world; a world that is in great need of recognizing God’s existence. When we embrace our faith and love of God and His love for us, we are that example of love to those who we encounter.

Change in Posture at Mass

Bishop Vann has asked that during the Communion Rite, the faithful in the Diocese of Orange be asked to kneel after the Agnus Dei until processing to receive Holy Communion. Since the posture comes about from the sense of awe and devotion the change will be made during the Bread of Life discourses that are proclaimed in late July this year. We will begin this process on the weekend of July 21—22. After we sing the “Lamb of God” and before the priest genuflects and elevates the host, we will hear “please kneel”. Please remain kneeling until it is time for you to process to communion and it is also appropriate to kneel when you return to your pew after receiving communion until the priest returns to his seat. If you are unable to kneel because of health reasons, you may be seated; however, please be mindful that someone behind you or next to you may be kneeling. Thank you for your understanding with this change.
