Care Notes (Prayer Notes) Transitions and changes in life are inevitable. These changes take different forms and can include almost every imaginable life - event births, new jobs, going away to school, a move to a new home or city, divorce, military deployment, or even death.

Each and everyone one of us will at one time or another have to face one if not many of these life changes, whether we are ready for them or not. But, how do we confront the changes in our lives, or our family and friends lives?

Care Notes are written by therapists, pastoral ministers, chaplains, health care educators as well as those who

have firsthand account of these life events.

These compact, 5 x 7 inch eight-page full color booklets give special emphasis to grief, illness and distress issues while offering strength, help and healing for those who are hurting.

Care Notes are located in the West hallway, please stop by to see if any of the booklets may be of help to you or your family and friends. A variety of topics are available, a few are listed below and there are even a few for teens!

* Elder Care, Family Care, Grief & Loss, Personal Healing & Health Care, Spirit Care, Recovery*

It can be difficult for some of us to imagine what it feels like to be in a relationship that hurts. And yet, we are all called to be aware, be compassionate and to believe. Here is one woman’s journey... In the beginning, I was young… he was handsome. He said I was beautiful, smart, worthy of love… he sure made me feel that way. And so, we were married, walking joyfully together down a church aisle, our

union blessed by God.

Then came the angry words… the verbal tearing apart… Now I was made to feel ugly, unintelligent, unworthy of any love, God's or man's.

Next came the beatings… unrelenting violence… unceasing pain. I shouldn't stay, but this is my husband... promised forever. He says I deserve it… maybe I do… if I could just be good. I feel so alone… doesn't God hear me when I cry out silently as I lie in bed each night?

Finally came the release, the realization. It's not me… it's him... I am worthy of love, God's and man's. One spring morning, my heart was filled with hope and with fear now only of starting over on my own. And so again I walked… down the hallway of our apartment building... never again to be silent... never again to live with that kind of violence, to suffer that kind of pain. WHERE TO FIND HELP: In an emergency, dial 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides 24/7 crisis intervention and referrals to local sources of help. Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). WOMEN AT THE WELL ™

The program is entitled AMERICAN BANDSTAND, and will be presented by Heather Braoudakis. Celebrate the early years of American Bandstand with music by the artists who appeared on the show hosted by the world’s oldest teenager… Dick Clark. You’ll hear music of Billy Williams, Perry Como, Patsy Cline, Johnny Mathis, Jerry Lee Lew-is, and others. Be sure to come and sing along. Heather’s career includes performance in musical theatre, opera, classical and pop music. She holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from Roosevelt University, and has appeared with the American Girl Theatre, Imagination Theatre, Theatre Hikes, Light Opera Works, Chicago Symphony and Grant Park Choruses. She was

also a guest artist with The Lyric Opera Center for American Artists. Heather was a Silver Award winner at the 2003 April Spring Friendship Festival in Pyongyang, North Korea, as well as a semi-finalist in the Tokyo International Vocal Competition. She has had the pleasure of singing the National Anthem for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Fire.

All Powerful God, Watch over all our dear ones who serve this day in the

military. Hold them safely in the palm of your hand.

Walk with them in your strength. Bring comfort and hope when they are weary.

Remind them of our love. Merciful Lord,

Bring a lasting peace into our midst. Heal our hearts and help all nations find ways to live

in harmony So that blood is shed no more.

We ask this in the name of Christ Jesus, Prince of Peace. Amen

Following the celebration of the Eucharist there is a ten minute period of silence before any other devotion begins during the week. Popular piety extends, but does not replace, the liturgical life of the Church. The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council teaches that “devotions should be so drawn that they harmonize with the liturgical seasons, are in accord with the sacred liturgy and are in some way derived from it and lead people to it since the liturgy by its very nature far surpasses any of them.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium #13.3)
