During this time while Mass cannot be celebrated publicly, the bills do not stop coming in and needing to be paid. We ask all who are able to do so to please register for online giving with PARISH GIVING during this time. Alternatively, your weekly contribution envelopes can be mailed to the rectory (checks only - please do not send cash in the mail!). As a church that seeks to serve, we wanted to provide you the convenience of being able to give the way you want. Parish Giving offers you the opportunity to make secure, automatic contributions from your bank account to our church. Parish Giving costs you nothing and provides many advantages to you and the church:

Is Parish Giving Safe? Parish Giving meets the highest banking-level security standards set forth by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) to ensure safe and confidential transactions. In fact, your banking information is encrypted in the system and is not accessible to any users or administrators of the Parish Giving system. When you manage your own account information, your church never needs to handle checks or worry about locking up documents containing your account information. And you’ll always be certain that your gifts are direct-deposited into your church’s account.

No New Members this week. Still hoping for 8 more? Is it possible that 8 more of our

parishioners will sign up for Parish Giving?

Once Mass begins again, we still have to social distance, and we want to keep our Ushers safe! If we can get 8 more to sign up for online giving,

that’s 8 less people putting envelopes in the basket every weekend!

First Reading: Isaiah 55:1-3 With great enthusiasm and fervor, God urges his people to come to him and to accept the gifts he extends to them. Second Reading: Romans 8:35, 37-39 In words that are both stirring and courageous, Paul exclaims that nothing will separate him and his followers from the love of Christ - neither trial - nor persecution - nor death. Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21 Matthew gives us a straightforward and convincing account of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Because the crowds following Jesus were hungry, he took five loaves and two fish, blessed them, and gave them to the crowds. Although the people numbered about five thousand, there was still food remaining.

August 2, 2020 - Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - August 2, 2020

“Thus says the Lord: All you who are thirsty, come to the water. Come without paying and without cost... Heed me and you shall eat well. You who have no money, come receive grain and eat. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant.”

During the hot days of summer we are constantly looking for relief. A refreshing drink, a cool breeze, a pool or lake, a break from oppression and toil. Water is often the most welcome solution.

It was the water of baptism which gave us new life, and allowed us to live the covenant the Lord made with His people. Water was a constant in the bible from creation, the flood, the Red Sea, and even the side of Jesus on Calvary.

It is the water of grace which enables us to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we celebrate the sacraments, every time we receive the Eucharist, we are touched by God’s saving grace. Maybe it is worth a minute to ask the Lord to help me appreciate the great gift He offers me constantly.

Remember this spring when the virus reminded us to wash our hands for twenty seconds? It was not only a precaution, but a remedy. May we “come to the water’ and be renewed.

during the offertory hymn. In the back of each church, there are baskets set up for parishioners to leave their donations. On weekends when multiple collections are scheduled, you may place both envelopes in the same basket. The ushers will securely deposit these donations at the end of each Mass. We wish to again take a moment to thank all our parishioners who have continued to send in their weekly or monthly donations via U.S. Mail or through ParishGiving. Thank you all for your generosity!

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,

Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas. We fly to you today as

your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Son, as you

did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all

our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels, that we may

be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and

deliverance. Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe

away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing,

teach all of us in the Church to

love one another and to be patient

and kind. Help us to bring the

peace of Jesus to our land and to

our hearts.

We come to you with confidence,

knowing that you truly are our

compassionate mother, health of

the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of

your protection, keep us in the

embrace of your arms, help us

always to know the love of your

Son, Jesus.

Amen.
