Things are picking back up again around campus. Here are some administrative items of interest.

AUDIO/VISUAL PROJECT• The audio/visual project in the church is underway. You may notice Alex Electric performing some

electrical work in preparation of the installation of the new equipment• Project includes new and additional speakers, additional assistive listening devices (including wi-fi), 3

small cameras, 2 projection screens and a technology booth for the corresponding equipment• The installation is tentatively scheduled for Feb 22 – Mar 19. There are some supply constraints at the

moment, but we are hopeful we can work through them without much delay• DID YOU KNOW that the church was constructed with the long-term plan of installing a projection screen

over the altar? If you look closely, you can see the rectangular cut out in the wood slats. Unfortunately, the viewing angles of this design would not work well, so we will go with 2 screens

• A subcommittee is drafting policy regarding use of the new equipment. With cameras and projection screens, we need to be sure that they are used to enhance the liturgies and not distract from them. Music, writings and artwork are often protected by copyright laws. These laws are complex and sometimes even outdated, which makes it a challenge to adhere to using technology in today’s world

• A new Technology Ministry will be created. They will run the new equipment at weekend Masses and other liturgies. We would like 1 to 3 people at each Mass, so it would be nice to have many people sign up. Some of the tasks such as the sound board are a little more fun to run, but take a little more training. Advancing the slides for the PowerPoint projection of the Worship Aid is almost a no brainer, but one must be attentive to the Mass. No sleeping . Training of course will be provided for all aspects. If you are interested, please contact the parish office with your name and contact info. Good opportunity for Confirmation service hours

COME TO THE WATER AREA CATHOLIC COMMUNITYOur ACC Planning Committee has not met since February 18, 2020. We did create and communicate a strategic plan for our area Catholic community (ACC) at the end of 2019 and that can be found under the Planning Office page on the Diocese of St. Cloud website https://stcdio.org/planning/area-catholic-community/ We have done some behind the scenes work on website and bulletin collaboration. One goal is to come up with a single bulletin covering our entire ACC.

IN THE MAIL!2020 tax statements were mailed out the week of January 18-22. If you contributed financially to St. Mary’s during 2020 but have not received your tax statement, please contact the parish office.

Our next quarterly newsletter will mail sometime during the 2nd full week of February. There will be a mid-year financial update as well as information regarding Ash Wednesday and Holy Week. RESERVATIONS will be required for most of those liturgies as they tend to be attended by a higher number of people and we will need to plan accordingly.

PRAYER CORNER

ABOUT LIFE

Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee (JPIC) - The word SOLIDARITY has become rather commonplace in our discussions about the world’s issues of the day. In 1987, Pope John Paul ll gave us this definition of solidarity. SOLIDARITY IS NOT A FEELING of vague compassion or shallow distress at the misfortunes of so many people, both near and far. On the contrary, it is a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the COMMON GOOD, that is to say to the good of all and of each individual, because we are all really responsible for all. “ We are not mere playthings of history, condemned to perpetual roles of oppressor and oppressed.” We should never lose heart, we can do something constructive together, in solidarity with one another and for one another.

For the legal protection of unborn childrenand for loving support for their mothers before and after their births; We pray to the Lord:

For public servants:May God grant them the humility, wisdom, and courage to defend all human life;We pray to the Lord:

For our nation:May God unite us in peaceand respect for each otherand reverence for all human life;We pray to the Lord:

THE COMMON THREAD OF HOLY SATURDAY: HOW A TRAUMA LENS CAN UNITE AND

STRENGTHEN OUR CATHOLIC CHURCHMany people spend Holy Saturday (trauma’s aftermath), by getting ready for Easter Sunday (triumphal new life), which reflects our overall unease with trauma (Good Friday). Trauma and its aftermath are viewed as something to “get over” as soon as possible, otherwise we risk shame and stigma. We forget: the resurrected Christ still carried his wounds. This presentation will explore the aftermath of trauma, and how use of a trauma lens can serve as powerful witness. We will discuss pastoral responses that help or hurt and will close with a look at what a trauma-responsive Catholic Church might look like.Thursday, February 11, Webinar presentation, 6:30-8:30 PM. Event is Free. Registration is required (register at least five days in advance of the event); To register:

LITURGICAL AND MUSICAL NOTES

THE IMPORTANCE OF AUTHORITYJesus began to teach in the synagogues, and people

listened to him. On one occasion a possessed man entered and began to shout at Jesus. The people were astonished when Jesus drove the evil spirit out of him.

Jesus’ fame began to spread throughout Galilee.

Jesus is listened to because he teaches with authority. The tone of his voice, his inflection, makes people take notice. Projecting that image of authority is important for parents too. I learned that lesson when my oldest son was five.

As a youngster I hated hearing my parents say, “Because I told you so.”When my first child was born I resolved that I would never say those words to my children.

It took me five years to realize the importance of developing a voice and look that conveyed those words of absolute authority.

I was feeding two toddlers when my oldest came in the house, accidentally bringing in a huge wasp. Big flying bugs scare me silly, but I knew I could not show panic. I would take care of the wasp—after my children were safely away. I asked Roger Andy to take his brother and sister out of the room. Instead of moving toward them, he sat down and asked me, “Why?” My quick explanation was met with another, “Why?” By the third “Why?”, I met his eye, gave him the look, and in a monotone two octaves lower than normal, commanded: “Because I told you so.” He grabbed his two siblings and left.

Later, I thanked him for rescuing Kristin and James. I would like to say I proceeded to answer all his questions about wasps, but I didn’t (I was never the perfect mom). But I did learn an important lesson that day. There are certain times when a parent needs to speak with attention-getting authority. Make sure one of those times is when you are talking about the gospel—delivered in your everyday voice and without “the look.”FAMILY RESPONSEDiscuss the different people of authority in your lives. Help your children understand that even adults have people who have power over them.PERSONAL RESPONSEHow do you respond to authority? Are you careful in how you use your authority over your children? What do you want to remember from last week? What are you looking forward to next week? What are your concerns? Published by the Pastoral Center, PastoralCenter.com. All rights reserved.
