Aims
• To give you an understanding of how we teach different aspects of Literacy in FS/KS1 at St Mary’s, including the teaching of Phonics, SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Guided Reading.
• To give you an understanding of the Literacy scheme we follow throughout the school: ‘Power of Reading’.
• To give you the opportunity to take part in some of the activities your children will be doing in school.

Key Stage One SPaG
• Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar taught both discretely and as part of Literacy lessons.
• Spelling:Year 1 continue to follow the RWInc. Programme, including ‘alien words’ and Handwriting (Phonics Screening Test meeting in the Spring Term)
Year 2 consolidate sounds then move on to spelling patterns and rules.
