    Catherine Leonard studied music at Kings College London andpiano with Aaron Shorr at the Royal Academy of Music and was

    accepted onto the third year Advanced Performance Studies coursein association with the RAM after being awarded a First in pianoperformance. She has also studied piano with Konrad Richter at theStaatliche Hochschule fr Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart.Recent and forthcoming recitals include the Bowes Museum,Barnard Castle, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, BlenheimPalace, Chichester Cathedral and the Harwich Festival.

    Alice Hart andStewart Younghave received critical acclaim

    for their exciting, innovative and spectacular performances ofmusic for two pianos and piano duet.

    They have played in recital throughout the UK and Europe,recorded music for film and theatre, premiered works by up-and-coming Scottish composers, performed as soloists with orchestraand have been prize-winners in national and internationalcompetitions.

    Particularly renowned for their interpretations of virtuosic andlate-romantic music, the duo have been highly commended fortheir performances of such works as Rachmaninoff's Suites forTwo Pianos and Symphonic Dances, Brahms' Haydn Variations andRavel's "La Valse". They are equally committed to the promotionof British and contemporary music for piano ensemble and the

    combining of art-forms.

    Alice and Stewart formed their Duo in 2005, when they met asstudents at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly theRoyal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama).

    Roddy Longwas born in Edinburgh and first studied violin with Edna

    Arthur. At the age of 16 he won an Associated Board Scholarship tostudy with Jaroslav Vaneck at the Royal College of Music. In 1989 hewas awarded a Lincoln Centre Scholarship at the Julliard school ofMusic in New York. Since returning to Scotland he has made manyappearances as a soloist and chamber music player and plays regularlywith the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

    Richard Beauchampwas born in New Zealand where he studiedwith Ernest Empson (a Godowsky pupil) and performed on radio andtelevision as a recitalist and as soloist with the New Zealand SymphonyOrchestra. He completed his studies at the Royal College of Music,London, with Kendall Taylor and Peter Wallfisch in 1975 and joinedthe staff of St Marys Music School, Edinburgh, in 1977.

    He has a long association with ECAT (Edinburgh Contemporary Arts

    Trust), having played in their first ever concert, a Maxwell Daviesretrospective in 1980, and many others, including: Stockhausen'sKontaktewith percussionist Andrew Wettam; The BEAST(BirminghamElectro-Acoustic Sound Theatre) - subsequently taking the work on aBritish tour for the Regional Contemporary Music Circuit; thepremiere, in 1986, of Lyell Cresswell'sOur Day Begins at Midnight(fromwhichThe Grammar of Solitude- premiered in a recital in Paris - is

    derived); a number of performances of Geoffrey King's Sonata for TwoPianoswith David Horne - later performing the work at the Almeida

    6Festival; a performance of Gershwin'sRhapsody in Bluein the original jazzband version, with Dick Lee's Chamber Jazz; an all Ives concert, and atour with Clark Rundell and the Royal Northern Wind Orchestra, assoloist in Geoffrey King's Piano Concerto, in 1991.

    Other performances include a tour with the New Zealand SymphonyOrchestra as soloist in Ravel'sG Majorand Liszt'sE FlatConcertos, BBCrecitals and appearances as soloist in many concertos, including both ofBrahms's and Rachmaninov'sRhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Hisperformances, in Amsterdam, Glasgow and Edinburgh, of LyellCresswell's piano quintet And Every Sparkle Shivering, where he joinedforces with the New Zealand String Quartet, were very warmly received.At St Mary's Music School he teaches piano, is head of keyboard,

    accompanies the students and has organised the school's chamber musicfrom 1983 until 2008. He has long had an interest in pedagogy and haslectured on musicians' health and biomechanics to the European PianoTeachers' Association (EPTA) and at The Glories of the KeyboardFestival atthe RNCM in Manchester. He gave a presentationThe Ergonomics of PianoPlayingat the British Association of Performing Arts MedicineInternational Conference in Glasgow in August, 2001.

    Neil Mantlewas born in Essex but has lived for most of his life inEdinburgh. He studied horn at the Royal Academy of Music. He hasworked extensively as a freelance player, chiefly with the RSNO, ScottishOpera and SCO. During this period, he played under many conductors -amongst them Neeme Jarvi, Sir Charles Mackerras, Yehudi Menuhin,Kurt Sanderling, Gennadi Rozestvensky and Mariss Yansons. Presently, heis active as a chamber music player, conductor (both choral and

    orchestral) and teacher. He was awarded an MBE in the 2008 Queen'sHonours for services to music in Scotland.

    William Stevensonslengthy career as a music teacher hasencompassed teaching five-year-olds on their first day at school andsupervising undergraduate dissertations. He is a graduate of Aberdeen,

    Dundee and St Andrews Universities and a Fellow of the Royal Collegeof Organists. Dr Stevenson was Organist of St Andrews University formany years and on his retiral in 2009 he was presented with theUniversity Gold Medal in recognition of his work as Director of Music inSt. Salvator's and St. Leonard's Chapels and Coordinator of AcademicMusic.

    Angela Stevensonhas only ever played the cello. She studied at the

    Royal Academy of Music in London and moved to the Netherlandswhere she has been solo-cellist in the Netherlands Ballet Orkest and theRadio Kamer Orkest in Hilversum. For the last 8 years she has played inthe Radio Kamer Filharmonie. All three orchestras no longer exist andhave been disbanded by economic cuts by successive DutchGovernments. She plays in many chamber music ensembles, Duo Tedesciand Ars Floreat. She is also frequently asked for continuo playing.

    Together with her brother William she has formed a summer-holidayduo for many years.

    The Murray Ensemble gave its first concert in 2007 in memory ofNigel Murray, a much-loved and sorely missed violinist, conductorand former Director of Music at St. Marys Music School.

    Originally comprising music students from the UK and abroad, itsmembers are now all firm fixtures on the London music scene andperform as soloists and chamber musicians internationally.

    Director and founder, Daniel Llewellyn Roberts, studied violinand conducting with Nigel for over a decade. This concert is

    dedicated to Nigel, and his truly inspirational musicianship.
