The Ministry of Care Needs You!!! This ministry involves bringing Holy Communion to home-bound, facility bound, or hospitalized people. It is a life-changing experience, to be a part of these lives. The privilege of serving them is rewarding. And never say, “Oh, I couldn’t do that!” Don’t underestimate God’s gifts!
We need a person, to offer communion at Kishwaukee Hospital every other Thursday. This service takes about one hour or so. The time of day is flexible, according to the minister’s schedule.
If you are interested in serving, or you have questions and con-cerns, PLEASE call the church office for information. Training and mentoring provided. Please continue to pray for our parishioners who cannot join us at Mass, and for their families and care providers.

From the Desk of Pope Francis — (from his Homily at World Youth Day in Panama)
“He receives sinners and eats with them.” We just heard this in the Gospel reading (Lk 15:2). They are the words muttered by some of the Pharisees and scribes, doctors of the law, who were greatly upset and scandalized by the way Jesus was behaving.
With those words, they tried to discredit and dismiss Jesus in the eyes of everyone. But all they all managed to do was point out one of His most ordinary, most distinctive, most beautiful ways of relating to others: “He receives sinners and eats with them.”
Now we are all sinners, all of us, and for that reason Jesus receives with care all of us who are here, and if anyone does not feel they are sinners-among all of us who are here-they should know that Jesus is not going to receive them, and they would miss out on the best part.
Jesus is not afraid to approach those who, for countless rea-sons, were the object os social hatred like the publicans-we know that tax collectors grew rich by exploiting their own people, and they caused great resentment-or those on the receiving end of social hatred because they had made an error in their lives, because of their errors and mistakes, some fault, and now they were called sinners. Jesus does this because He knows that in heaven there is more joy for a single one of those who make mistakes, for a single convert-ed sinner, than for 99 righteous people who remain good (Lk 15:7).
And whereas these people were content to grumble or com-plain because Jesus was meeting with people who were marked by some kind of social error, some sin, and closed doors on conversion, on dialogue with Him-Jesus approach-es and engages. Jesus puts his reputation at risk. He asks us, as He always does , to lift our eyes to a horizon that can renew our life, that can renew our history.
All of us, all have a horizon. All of us. Someone may say, “I do not have one.” Open the window and you will find it, open the window of love that is Jesus and you will find Him. We all have a horizon.

There is this thing. And this thing prohibits growth. Because this thing thinks that if I am going to do something at all, then I have to do it properly, poignantly, and perfectly without question, every time. This thing is Perfectionism and it is time for it to die. But get this, we won’t and we can’t be perfect in killing it off, one fell swoop...the way we kill it is by mak-ing mistakes. GASP. And then learning from them. GASP again.
Look we just entered the season of Lent. We have made what feels like another set of New Years resolutions and if we “fail” at them, we can sometimes find that we quit; we give up because “well, we failed, better luck next year.” We fall into this perfectionist ideology. But to fall into defeat would be below our dignity. It would also be exactly contrary to what this season is about. Lent is a journey. And if you have read any true hero’s journey you will know and be okay with the notion that on a journey, I do not know what lies before me, I just have to make the next best decision that I can make. And if I find that I make a mistake on my journey, then I get up, brush off, LEARN FROM THE MISTAKE and then move on. No need to quit because it got too hard. This season is not about doing the hardest thing possible to prove to yourself or others that you can do it, it is about making a sacrifice, and if I have to re-adjust my penance somewhere between week one and week five, then thanks be to God that we are learning that it is okay to not perfectly “do” this journey.

In Need of a Minister of Care Visit? Perhaps you or a loved one is unable to attend Mass, perhaps due to a surgery, chronic illness, or difficulty in mobili-ty… It is important that each parishioner knows they are a part of our community, even when not able to actively participate. Each of us is in need of Christ’s presence in our lives… Ministers of Care bring the Eucharist to the homebound and offer prayer. Also, if you or a loved one is admitted to Kish Hospital, please make sure the patient’s name is given to the hospital on admission and it will be added to the list for communion visits. Call the church office if you or a loved one is in need of the Eucharist being brought to the home. Please continue to pray for the sick and homebound.
ST. JOHN OGILVIE Feast Day - March 10
Born in 1579, John Ogilvie belonged to Scottish nobility. Raised a Calvinist, he was educated on the continent. Exposed to the religious controversies of his day and impressed with the faith of the martyrs, he decided to become a Catholic. In 1596, at age seventeen he was received into the Church at Louvain. Later John attended a variety of Catholic educational institutions, and eventually he sought admission into the Jesuits. He was ordained at Paris in 1610 and asked to be sent to Scotland, hoping some Catholic nobles there would aid him given his lineage. Finding none, he went to London, then back to Paris, and finally returned to Scotland. John's work was quite successful in bringing back many people to the faith. Some time later he was betrayed by one posing as a Catholic. After his arrest he was tortured in prison in an effort to get him to reveal the names of other Catholics, but he refused. After three trials, John was convicted of high treason because he converted Protestants to the Catholic Faith as well as denied the king's spiritual jurisdiction by upholding the Pope's spiritual primacy and condemning the oaths of supremacy and allegiance. Sentenced to death, the courageous priest was hanged at Glasgow in 1615 at the age of thirty-six.

St. Mary’s Cub Scout Pack 173 held their Pinewood Derby Race on Sunday February 24th at St Mary School. We had 35 cars competing and several sibling cars during the open racing. Here are this year’s winners.

MERCY MOMENT Mar.10 – “Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.” (Faustina, 950) Mar. 11 – “But as for me, I will look to the Lord, I will wait for God my savior; my God will hear me! …. Who is a God like You, who removes guilt and pardons sin for the remnant of his inheritance; who does not persist in an-ger forever, but instead delights in mercy, and will again have compassion on us, treading underfoot our iniquities? You will cast into the depths of the sea all our sins…” (Micah 7:7,18-19) Mar. 12 – “O Incomprehensible God, how great is Your mercy! It surpasses the combined understanding of all men and angels. All the angels and all humans have emerged from the very depths of Your tender mercy. Mercy is the flower of love. God is love, and mercy is His deed. In love it is conceived; in mercy it is revealed. Everything I look at speaks to me of God’s mercy. Even God’s very justice speaks to me about His fathomless mercy, because justice flows from love.” (Faustina, 651) Mar. 13 – “Extend your mercy toward others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us?” (Saint Vincent de Paul) Mar. 14 – “My Jesus, support me when difficult and stormy days come, days of testing, days of ordeal, when suffering and fatigue begin to oppress my body and my soul. I have nothing for my defense but only Your mercy; in it lies all my trust.” (Faustina, 1065) Mar. 15 – “Out of the depths I call to you Lord; Lord, hear my cry! May your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If You, Lord, keep account of sins, Lord, who can stand? But with You is forgiveness and so You are revered. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits and I hope for His word. My soul looks for the Lord more than sentinels for daybreak. More than sentinels for daybreak, let Israel hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is mercy, with him is plenteous redemption, and He will redeem Israel from all its sins.” (Psalm 130) Mar. 16 – “For there are three ways of performing an act of mercy: the merciful word, by forgiving and by comforting; secondly, if you offer no word, then pray – that too is mercy; and thirdly, deeds of mercy. And when the Last Day comes, we shall be judged from this, and on this basis we shall receive the eternal verdict.” (Faustina, 1158)
With the spiritual pillars of Lent at our disposal, we are on a 40-day journey, a journey to encounter with ourselves, our neighbors and our God. Through prayer, we encounter Christ, present in the faces of every member of our human family, so often still walking that
long road to Calvary. Through fasting, we encounter our own obstacles, those things about ourselves that prevent us from loving God and neighbor. Through almsgiving, we encounter our less fortunate brothers and sisters around us, asking what can we give up so that others might have life to the fullest. What will you encounter this Lent?
