St. Mary of the Assumption Parish - King of the Universe
Nov 20-21, 2021
Page 2 - 018ma
Hi,
On the last Sunday of each liturgical year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or Christ the King. Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 to respond to growing secularism and atheism. He recognized that at-tempting to “thrust Jesus Christ and his holy law” out of public life would result in discord among people and nations. This solemnity reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ is King forever. We love Jesus in our private lives, but we shrink from acknowledging Christ in social life. When we cele-brate the Solemnity of Christ the King, we declare to the world and remind ourselves that Jesus is the Lord of the Church and of the entire universe. (Catholic Current)

Let us help you be happier in retirement!
We are still looking for a part-time maintenance/groundskeeper. The ideal candidate would be responsible for maintaining STM’s cemetery including using a riding or hand mower, trimming around stones and edges, performing routine maintenance such as fixing pews, changing lights, sweeping debris, minor repairs, snow blowing or shoveling, set up of special events, etc. Electrical/plumbing/carpenter skills a plus.
Hours and days are flexible. Join our great crew as we strive to make our Parish Community better and more beautiful. Please contact the Parish Office if you are interested. Feel free to share this information.
"Some of the hazards of retirement, such as a lack of social-ization, are really mitigated if you continue to work," saysDr. Michael Roizen, the Cleveland Clinic's chief wellness of-ficer and co-author of "Ageproof: Living Longer Without Running Out of Money or Breaking a Hip." "The people who don't retire or who come back to work part-time live longer and live healthier with less disability."
