JJuly 7, 2019 ~ Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parishioners: May the Peace of Christ be with you all. I just want to introduce myself as the new Pastor of Saint Martin de Porres Parish. Although my appointment officially began on July 1st, I will be arriving at the Parish this week due to a commitment I made over a year ago to an out of town wedding of a Parishioner who grew up in my former Parish. I am most grateful to God and to Cardinal Dolan for this opportunity to serve this beautiful and vibrant Parish of Saint Martin de Porres. I plan on introducing myself in person at all the Masses next weekend and look forward with great joy to getting to know all of you. Let us give thanks to God for Msgr. Sullivan and the 15 years he served as your Pastor. I hope we can get him back here in September to honor him in a special way. Msgr. Sullivan was the first priest I spoke with in discerning the possibility of leaving my career and entering the minor seminary, and he was the Rector of the minor seminary when I finally found the courage with his help to do it back in 1992. Now it is such a privilege for me to be taking the mantle from him after 50 years of devoted service to our Lord and His people. Msgr. Sullivan has left this Parish so strong in every way, and for that I am most grateful. May God fill him with much peace and happiness in his well-deserved years of retirement in which he will continue to serve God’s people elsewhere as a Senior Priest. Let us also thank God for our School Principal, Mrs. Leahy, who is also retiring. Her leadership and selfless devotion to our School together with Msgr. Sullivan has made Saint Martin de Porres the finest Catholic School in the Archdiocese of New York. I sent a letter home to all the parents of our School children last week to introduce myself and announce the selection of our new Principal, Mr. Gregory Viceroy. Following Msgr. Sullivan will be a tough act to follow, but I pledge to you that I will serve this magnificent Parish with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength, together with Father Abraham and Father Bancroft. Know that I am praying for you, and I ask for your prayers that I may be the kind of Pastor you so much deserve, a priest after the Heart of Jesus. May God bless us all.

Sincerely yours in Christ.

WHAT ARE THOSE MORMONS ALL ABOUT? Thursday, July 25, 7-9:00pm in the Nativity Center

They've been our neighbors on Spackenkill Road for many years, and they prefer to be called "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." But what are they all about? What are the origins of this uniquely American religion? What do they believe? What are some of their customs? The Ecumenical Committee of St. Martin's invites you to come and find the answers to those questions and more. The presenters will be Scott Ey and Bruce Hawks, past Stake Presidents who oversaw 8 congregations in the Hudson Valley, including the one on Spackenkill Road. Refreshments and conversation will follow the presentation. All are welcome.

There is a second collection this week for Capital Improvement. There will be a second collection next week for

Catholic Missions Among Black & Indian People. Please be as generous as possible.
