~~ April 12, 2020 ~ Easter Sunday of the

Resurrection of the Lord Dear Parishioners:

A very blessed Easter to everyone! CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS TRULY RISEN! Good has triumphed over evil, love has triumphed

over hate, life has triumphed over death. I pray that this Holy Week has been a

moment of grace for you and your families, and that you had the chance at home to enter into the Solemn Liturgies of the Sacred Triduum during these last three holiest days of the year. Through these Solemn Liturgies we had the chance to spend this time with our Lord Jesus during His last hours on Earth.

We were with Jesus on Holy Thursday Night, the night before He suffered, in the upper room at the Solemn Mass of the Lord’s Supper as His Passion began. We were with Him at the foot of the Cross with His Mother, Mary, on Good Friday at the Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion. And we remained with Him in silence throughout Holy Saturday as He lay in the Tomb, until the Easter Alleluia thundered throughout the World beginning at the Great Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday Night.

From Holy Thursday Night until the Easter Vigil, all the Tabernacles throughout the world were empty, the Sanctuaries in every Church were stripped bare, and the Mass was not celebrated. The whole Church throughout the world paused to remember the death of the Lord. How sad life would be, how hollow and empty our existence would be, if Good Friday was the end of the story, if the Tabernacles were always empty, if the Church did not exist and we did not have our Faith.

We might feel this way a little bit during this time that you are deprived of attending Mass and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. But the Solemn Liturgies of the Lord’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection were still celebrated in the presence of the Angels and the Saints, and with all of you in spirit. Today the Faith of the Church is still alive and vibrant throughout the World because Christ is Risen! He is truly Risen!

It seemed as though evil, darkness, and death had won on Good Friday afternoon, but not for long. God will always have the last word. And He will have the last word in this present crisis as well. How beautiful and powerful is our Faith, and how beautiful is this Parish of Saint Martin de Porres because of all of you. I thank you from the depths of my heart for your faith, your love, your prayers, and your support of our Parish all year long, and especially now at this difficult time. Please know that we are here to serve you, that we love you, and that we cherish your presence here with us, most especially at Sunday Mass each week. We cannot wait to have you back! And on behalf of Fr. Charles, the Deacons, and Myself, may the Blessings and Joy of Easter be yours in abundance. Sincerely in Christ, Rev. Matthew J. The Faculty, Staff & Students of St. Martin de Porres Parish School

would like to wish everyone a Blessed and Happy Easter

Praying for the safety and health of all during this unprecedented situation

The staff and children of Saint Martin de Porres

Religious Education Program would like to wish everyone a

Happy and Blessed Easter! “They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! … (Luke 24:3-6).

Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You Sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You were already there, I embrace You and unite myself wholly to You; permit not that I should ever be separated from You. Amen.

Nine Day Novena for an end to the

Coronavirus Pandemic (as adapted from Bishop Douglas J. Lucia

special novena prayer for an end to Coronavirus pandemic) O Mary, full of Grace, Patroness of this nation and Mother of the Church, in this time of illness and worldwide need we seek your intercession for the human family before your Son’s throne of grace and mercy. We ask for strength in adversity, health in weakness, and comfort in sorrow. Help us Oh Blessed Mother to be filled with confidence and trust in the tender compassion of our God. Let us not be afraid like our own St. Martin de Porres who entrusted his life and ministry among the outcast of society into the care of our Divine Physician. Continue to watch over all who are sick as well as those who care for them and give wisdom to all who are seeking a cure. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen

A Note from Cardinal Dolan Just like you and your family, the parishes of the archdiocese are suffering from this crisis as well. Now, perhaps more than at any time in recent history, your parish and the archdiocese need your help. It can’t survive without you. Now that our public Masses have been cancelled for an undetermined period of time, I am appealing to you to support your parish by continuing to share your gift of Sunday offertory. These funds are critical for the continued operation of your parish at this unprecedented moment in time. Your parish does so much more than offer Sunday Mass. It is there in the happiest moments in your life – wedding, baptisms, first communions – and is a source of comfort during some of the most challenging, during times of sorrow like the death of a loved one. There are prayer groups, food pantries, social activities, schools, and on-going religious education. All of this depends on you! Please continue, at a minimum, with your current level of support. One easy way to do so is through your parish’s online giving provider; a majority of our parishes use WeShare. Your parish’s online giving account can be accessed through the parish’s website. I know your pastors will be most appreciative and relieved to know that they can depend on receiving your continued offertory support each Sunday. I am not being alarmist when I say that without your support, your parish may be seriously undermined.
