sacristy on Saturdays from 1pm - 2pm. • Please come in a mask. NO ONE will be al-

lowed in the church without a mask. • 6 ft. social distancing will be followed at all

times • No more than 10 persons will be allowed in

the church at any time. • “Greeters” will be available to take your

name, phone number and email address to facilitate contact tracing if necessary.

• All visitors will have their hands sprayed with

hand sanitizer prior to entering. • “Ushers” will lead you to a marked seat.

Please remain in your seat during your prayer time. Families will be allowed to sit together in designated pews.

• To enter, all will use the center aisle - as

marked • Worshippers should limit their time to 20

minutes to allow those who might be waiting to come into the church

• Please refrain from touching any statues, rel-

ics, altar, etc. to help prevent any potential spread of virus

• To exit, all will use the side aisles - as marked • Please do not gather in front of the small

church. • The St. Martha cleaning crew will thoroughly

clean and disinfect all surfaces after each day of visitation.

We are going to allow worshippers to come with-out scheduling in advance at this point. Howev-er, if we find larger numbers of people waiting to come into the church, we will implement a sched-uling program. Our plan is subject to change based on state mandate and adjustments re-quired by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our main goal is to reopen in the safest way possible.

Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ – Corpus Christi Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners: Surely the most effective ritual for helping our Jewish ancestors in faith to maintain their identity was the annual Passover Meal – the Seder. It was in the context of that celebration that Jesus gave us the Lord’s Sup-per: “Do this in memory of me.” Asked if he could explain the theory of relativity in simple terms, Albert Einstein said, “No, but if you come home with me, I will play it for you on the violin.” Some things cannot be explained, but they are nonetheless real. The Eucharist is like that. As a sacrament of “relativity,” it maintains our relation-ships. It is mystical communion. What we can say with certainty is this. In the Eucharist, Jesus is as real and tangibly present to us as he was to the two disciples whom he joined on Easter day on the road to Emmaus, who finally recognized Him in the breaking of the bread. The Church Father Theophilus taught centuries ago that Jesus was offering the people not simply the flesh of a man but the flesh of God, thereby making humans divine. He used this analogy: he said that when someone eats his flesh and drinks his blood, Christ is “inebriating’ that person, as it were, with divinity. “I am the living bread come down from heaven.” The author of the fourth Gospel account was more in-tent on developing who Jesus was than what Jesus did. Recall the opening of that account: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God,…and the Word became flesh.” There was something unique about Je-sus. He was more than the long-awaited Messiah: “I am in the Father and the Father is in me” (John 14:11) The term “hypostatic union” had not yet been applied to the God/man Jesus Christ, but the reality was there, and John was trying to capture that truth. To receive Jesus is to receive the Father, who sent him (John 13:20). The union of Father and Son is a frequent theme in John’s Gospel. “You are my disciples if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). The union of the Father and the Son is mirrored in the communion of Jesus with his disciples. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus clearly identified with people, especially the poor: feed the hungry, clothe the naked. After washing the feet of the disciples at the Last Supper, Jesus specified that his disciples were to be servants. “My commandment is this: ‘Love one another as I have loved you.’ (John 15:13). I John 4:20 puts it more strongly: “If anyone says he loves God but hates his brother, he is a liar.” The Eucharist is the sign and instrument for unity because it unites us to God and one another. With good reason, the Second Vatican Council called the Eucharist “the source and summit of the Christian life.” Source and summit! Already we share in the banquet of heaven: “I am the bread come down from heaven” (John 6:41). “The bread that I will give is my flesh.” (John 6:51). When we eat Christ’s flesh and drink his blood, we agree to be-come one family, sharing one thanksgiving meal. No one can welcome Jesus and close the door on sisters and brothers. The “Amen” we say when we receive Holy Communion acknowledges two realities: 1) the Real Pres-ence of Christ in the Eucharistic bread and cup: and 2) whoever receives the Eucharist agrees to be the Body of Christ, to give one’s life to flesh out that Real Presence for others. The regular celebration of the Eucharist has been the greatest give we have been able to give the world continuously from the Last Supper until we had to shut down our beloved church this past March 14th. That’s why our being deprived of it due to the covid-19 pandemic has been so painful for so many of you. So, on this feast of Corpus Christi, it is my pleasure to share with you that we plan to be resuming the celebration of daily Mass for pre-registered congregations of 40 or less, beginning June 29th. We also plan to resume the celebra-tion of Sunday Mass for pre-registered congregations of 40 or less on the week-end of July 11/12. More details will be given to everyone. Welcome back to Mass! -Fr. Dennis

My Jesus, I believe that You

are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.

I love You above all things. And I desire to receive You into

my soul.

Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there,

And unite myself wholly to You.

Never Permit me to be separated from you.

AMEN

FOOD FROM HEAVEN God sustained the people of Israel for forty years in the desert with manna sent down from heaven, and Mo-ses doesn’t want them to forget it. God brought forth water from stone for them to drink, and Moses doesn’t want them to forget this, either. And Moses tells them—twice—that the food that God sent was a food that neither they nor their ancestors before them had ever experienced before. Jesus too speaks of food come down from heaven, food that the Jewish people had never experienced be-fore. Recalling the manna in the desert, Jesus doesn’t want them to forget it either, explaining that he is the food and drink of eternal life. And Paul reiterates to the Corinthians and to all of us that in the bread and in the cup, we share in the body and blood of Christ.
