December 29th, 2019 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph

My Dear Friends, Today we celebrate “The Holy Family”, a time to reflect on the conditions of our family situations. There was an article in the Magazine, “The Priest” about how our image of family has changed in our culture these past years. We went from “Leave it to Beaver” in the 1960’s (where dad solved all the problems by the end of the show), to “All in the Family” in the 1970’s (where dad was a racist and mom was confused, but well meaning) to “The Simpsons” in our own day, (where everyone has problems, especially dad). We tend to see ourselves in a mirror over the decades as a family – ideal, funny, broken, - but as a people, trying to make it work. Today, we look to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph; in which we are to “honor your fathers and mothers” as Sirach ask us and St. Paul writes to be a family community with, “heartfelt compassion, kindness… and patience.” So today we focus on our families and strive to live the words of Sirach and Saint Paul and put Christ and his love, first in our families. Our thanks for all your generous gift’s to our parish and those in need at Silver Lake Nursing Home and Catholic Social Services this Christmas Season. I thank you for all your generosity and kindness to me! Looking forward to the celebration of the Three Kings, on Sunday, January 5th, and hope you will be able to join us at this event. Praying for God’s blessings on you this New Year, blessings of Peace and Good Health! Your brother in Christ, Father Mooney
