It seeks to support, befriend, and bond the women of the parish as they seek to integrate faith with their vocations as married, single and religious Catholic women of the twenty first century. The giving and receiving of spiritual support is the fruit of the women’s gathering which takes place in the prayerful setting of our parish every third Friday evening of the month at 7:30PM in the Pope John Paul II Room. SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING: The Solemnity of Christ the King marks the final Sunday of each church year. It is most fitting to bring the liturgical year to a close with a focus on Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. We hear in the readings for today “kingdom” language, a subtle but significant reminder of God’s kingdom that Jesus came to establish in heaven and on earth. In the kingdom of God we are free to respond to God’s invitation or not. The scene on Calvary is a stark reminder to us that the choice is always there. Jesus hung on a cross between two criminals, one who reviled him and another who asked for mercy. The words of Jesus are not only comfort to the crucified thief. They are also words addressed to us who follow Christ, our king and our savior. We believe that he will lead us to paradise as well. BIRTHLINE/LIFELINE: The 4th Annual Dinner Dance Gala for Birthline/Lifeline took place this past Saturday, November 16. At the Gala there are a few awards given. One of the awards is the St. Gregory the Great Award. This award is given to a Godly group of individuals who have followed the holy example of Gregory the Great by giving financial assistance or direct assistance such as baby food, baby clothing, formula and funding for those who receive loving and material assistance at the Catholic Charities Birthline/Lifeline Pregnancy Care Centers. This year the St. Gregory the Great Award was given to you, the Parishioners of St. Mark Parish. You have received this award because of your support of Birthline/Lifeline. You have contributed to the two special collections that we have during the year (one in October and one on Mothers’ Day). You support the Baby Showers and the Pennies for Babies (these bottles are on the table at the doors of the church). We also send a small check every month. You also support the Birthline/Lifeline Walk-a-thon every Fall. As Mary Rodriguez (the Program Director of Birthline/Lifeline) stated in presenting this award: St. Mark contributes the most of any parish to the Walk-a-thon. The award that you received is on display in the narthex of the church. Thank you to all parishioners of St. Mark for this award. RECEIVING THE EUCHARIST AT HOME: There are times when some are not able to attend Mass because of illness but would like to receive the Eucharist. If you or someone in your family would like to receive Holy Communion, please contact Sr. Mary Joan and she will arrange an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to visit. The Ministers have been trained and commissioned to do this in our Parish. No one but a Minister is allowed to take Communion to the home. It has come to our attention that some who are not Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are taking the Eucharist home. They are putting the Eucharist in their pockets. This is not allowed. Please see or contact Sr. Mary Joan so that we continue to have the proper respect for the Lord. VOCATION CHALICE: The purpose of the Chalice Program is to encourage parishioners and families to pray and promote vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. The consecrated Chalice is a tangible reminder of this special intention for the Church. The Second Vatican Council highlights the responsibility of the laity to pray for and support vocations. This urgent call has been strongly affirmed in the writings and addresses of Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way. We hope that those who bring the chalice home will continue to pray daily for vocations.

We have a poster on the bulletin board in the narthex; this poster has the weeks when we need volunteers to take the chalice home. Each Saturday/Sunday at Mass, the volunteer parishioner will accept the responsibility of praying for vocations at home with their family. When you attend Mass – just come to the sacristy and tell the Priest that you are to have the chalice for the week. The priest will call the you to the altar after communion to receive the Chalice. Take the Chalice home and display it in a prominent place of honor for all to see during the week. At a special time each day, perhaps after dinner or before bed, pray for and concentrate on vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life. We ask that the Chalice be returned to the sacristy in church before the 4:00 PM Mass on Saturday (it could be returned to the Parish Office on Friday). Thank you for participating in this important program. THANKSGIVING: On Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, we will have Mass at 9:00 AM. We ask that all who attend this Mass please bring a non-perishable food item that we will collect and give to the Community Caring Center. Let us remember those who have less. This will be a wonderful way to begin our Thanksgiving celebration. MASS KIT: Every month we celebrate Mass at Nursing and Retirement Facilities within our Parish. We have purchased a new Mass Kit, which includes everything that is needed to celebrate Mass. If anyone would like to contribute to help pay for the Mass Kit, please contact Fr. Richard. MASS SCHEDULE: We receive calls asking if we are on summer or winter Mass schedule. My answer is that we are on the “right” schedule. We will change in January. The present Mass schedule is: Sat. 4:00 PM and 5:45 PM; Sun. 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM; 12:00 Noon; 4:00 PM (Spanish); and 6:00 PM.
