Solemnity of the Ascension June 2, 2019

There is a story about the keeper of the lighthouse at Calais, France, who was talking about the brightness of its lantern, which could be seen more than thirty miles at sea. A visitor asked, “What if one of the lights should chance to go out?” “Never. Impossible!” cried the keeper, horrified at the thought. “Sir,” he said, pointing to the ocean, “yonder, where nothing can be seen, there are ships going to all parts of the world. If tonight one of my burners went out, within six months would come a letter, perhaps from India, perhaps from America, perhaps from a place of which I have never heard, saying ‘Such a night, at such an hour,

the light of Calais burned dim, the watchmen neglected his post, and vessels were in danger.’ My good sir, sometimes in the dark nights, in stormy weather, I look out to sea and feel as if the eyes of the whole world were looking at my light. Go out? Burn out? Never.” “In accordance with the Scriptures, He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father….” Today on the Solemnity of the Ascension we celebrate the ultimate triumph of our Risen Savior as Jesus transcends our world to take His glorious position in heaven. There, Christ is pledged to intercede for us. How beautiful to imagine Christ, with a fidelity and steadfastness greater than any lighthouse keeper, peering into world and spying us as we make our journey. The Light of the World shines brightly from a heavenly perch. Christ will not allow us to flounder, to wander aimlessly, to get lost. Relieved by the Ascension of earthy confines, Christ now is available to all His adopted brothers and sisters, to all of us. Aware of our needs, Christ prays. Seeing us doubt, Christ restores. Noticing us ramble, Christ leads. Seeing our death, Christ shares the triumphant victory. We will be with Him forever. Go out? Burn Out? Never! I thank the group of people who organized and worked the reception for Fr. Vitali’s anniversary party. What a magnificent job! Everything was well planned and well done. Many commented on the decorations, food, speeches, and overall hospitable kindness they received from our parishioners. Thank you very much.

May God bless all of you. ~~ Fr. Hambrough

Vincentian Mission Appeal

Next weekend, June 8-9, St. Mark’s welcomes Fr. Gary Mueller, C.M. to our parish. Fr. Mueller belongs to the Vincentian Fathers and he serves as Regional Superior to their missions in Kenya. Father will be here participating in the Missionary Co-Operation Program of the Archdiocesan Mission Office.

Please welcome Fr. Mueller to our Parish.

Dearest fellow parishioners,

Thank you!!! Thank you for your many generous remarks and gifts to me on the occasion of my 50th. But most of all, thank you for your patient care for me, your understanding, and your acceptance of me the past 48 years. When I came to St. Tim’s in August, 1971, just two years after ordination, I had no idea that this parish would be the core center of my priestly ministry for the next 48 years, including my 13 years in Louisville. In a life of great blessings, my ministry and presence at St. Tim’s and St. Mark’s, is clearly one of the greatest of these blessings.

Thank you in all manners and ways of gratitude.

May God continue to bless you and all your family, this parish, forevermore!!!
