A NOTE FROM FATHER KEVIN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
+ Pax et Bonum!
Welcome to St. Maria Goretti on this the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time! It is so good for all of us to be here around the Altar of the Lord! This Parish derives great strength and consolation from being together at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! We truly pray for one another! We do welcome all of our guests and visitors who join us for Masses this weekend. We welcome a large group of the members of the Donahue, Padgett, Jones and Delph families who are in town for Will and Amber’s wedding yesterday. And we are also most happy to welcome our brothers and sisters who are in Westfield this weekend for ballgames at Grand Park. We’re glad each and every person is here!
This is an extremely BIG week around here at St. Maria Goretti. Next Saturday, July 14, is our 2018 Italian Festival, honoring our Patroness, St. Maria Goretti. We just celebrated St. Maria Goretti’s Feast Day this past Friday, on July 6, and we continue the celebration with next weekend’s Italian Festival. With games for the kids, delicious food and ice cold drinks, live music, bingo, a zip-line, inflatables, and awesome fireworks to wrap up the evening, the Italian Festival is one of my favorite nights of the whole year! Not only do I want you to come out and join us next Saturday evening, following the 4:30 pm Mass, but I am asking that all members of the Parish sign up to help out with one or more of the important jobs for the event. Everybody needs a job at the Italian Festival, unless you are a visitor or a guest. We put this on as a community, for our bigger community of Westfield! Many volunteers are STILL needed, even a week before the event. Can you help out in the kitchen, or take tickets at a game booth, sell salads, or help clean up afterwards? Sure you can! Sign up today!
The other extremely important part of all of this is that the Italian Festival is part of our evangelization. Each and every one of us need to take seriously our call to invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, our favorite cashier at Kroger, everybody and anybody to come and join us next Saturday night. We might not feel comfortable inviting people to come pray with us at Mass, or to work in the Shepherd’s Gate Food Pantry, or even to come to Eucharistic Adoration, but all of us can invite anybody to come and to listen to some live music, or to see some free fireworks, or to have a cannoli! Hey, you’d be surprised! A good cannoli can do a lot a good in opening doors for God! But for all of this to really work, we have to actually invite others to come and join us next Saturday. Think about this today. Who could you invite? We all know dozens of people! The possibilities are endless! We should be inviting everybody that we run into this week. Don’t be afraid. This is not the time to be shy. Did you know that there are actually people who have come back to the Church and those who have actually joined the Catholic Church, all because someone invited them to the Italian Festival? It happens. And it is one of the big reasons why we all work so hard to put on this very special evening. And you thought it was just because I like tiramisu. I do like tiramisu, but that’s not why we have an Italian Festival. I also think that one of the reasons that we have had such beautiful weather for these events is because our Patroness, St. Maria Goretti, loves it when we work together to build the Kingdom of God. I think she has some special role in Heaven that has to do with weather here on earth! And don’t forget that all of us should also be praying for a nice evening next Saturday!
This year’s Italian Festival is honoring Sister Maria Clare Smith, who just recently made her Final Vows as a Franciscan sister. St. Maria Goretti is Sister Maria Clare’s home Parish. The daughter of Gordon and Mary Ann Smith, the Smith family have always been an important part of this Community! And while we don’t get to see Sister Maria Clare near as often as we’d like, we are all so very proud of this very special young woman! And next weekend, we are honored that all of us get to celebrate with her this very special occasion in her life and vocation.
And… but wait, there’s more! Don’t forget the Friday evening Soccer Match to get us revved up for the Italian Festival on Saturday! Whether you want to play or watch, Friday evening is when it is happening, and the action is right here on our soccer fields on campus. Please see the contact information inside this bulletin for more information.
Have a great week! God bless all of you! In Christ, Fr. Kevin
God wants full custody, not just weekend visits!
Welcome! For more than 22 years now, we have been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with everyone! Please accept my warmest welcome, and I pray you will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all do—our Spiritual Home and Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you! God Bless you. —Father Kevin WELCOME: IBRAHIM & ELIN BADAWI

COME, VISIT WITH JESUS One critical adoration hour—Saturday, 3 pm—still needs at least one adorer. If this hour doesn’t fit your schedule, another 44 adoration hours have only one scheduled adorer. Pick an hour that does fit your sched-ule, and call Jeff Brown, 317-417- 1540, to fill that hour. MARRIAGE POINTER In a healthy marriage, both spouses strive to be good
and strong. But, sometimes it is through recognizing our weakness that we can grow stronger. What a mystery! “…for when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Cor 12:10 Can you identify a weakness in your-
self that has punctured your pride and made you a better spouse? ~ by Susan Vogt, susanvogt.net FALL CURSILLO WEEKENDS Are you ready for a personal encounter with Christ? Now is the time to sign up for the Fall Men’s and Women’s

NEW immunization requirement for 6th grade students fall 2018
Beginning fall 2018, ALL 6th grade students in Indiana must receive two Hepatitis A shots. The minimum inter-val between the first and second shot is six calendar months. Please schedule your first shot NOW. These two shots are required in addition to the Tdap and meningitis shots already required for 6th grade students. Many pedi-atrician offices routinely give the two Hep A shots during well-child checkups. Please review your immunization records or call your health care provider to see if your student has received the two doses of Hep A. This will be a “roll up” requirement. Current students in 6th–11th grades are NOT required to have the Hep A shot for school admission. Two doses of Hep A are required for incoming grades K–4, 6th, and 12th.
