Outside magazine named Minneapolis as one of the Best Bike Cities in North America in fall 2012. Its no wonder, hundreds of miles of biking and walking trails connect St. Louis Park to downtown Minneapolis, the chain of lakes and surrounding Western suburbs. St. Louis Parks Rec Center and Wolfe Park offer a 20,000 square foot aquatic park, two ice skating rinks, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, fishing opportunities, private rental spaces and walking trails.

Minnesota is known for its 10,000 lakes and many can be found close to St. Louis Park. You can enjoy sail boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming and paddle boarding at local lakes. Outdoor enthusiasts love the Minneapolis chain of lakes including Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Lake of The Isles, Cedar Lake and Lake Nokomis. Nokomis is the site of the nationally televised Lifetime Fitness Triathlon. And, to our west, the impressive in scale Lake Minnetonka is a water lovers paradise.

Racers take to the streets and trails in numerous marathons, half-marathons, 5Ks and off-road contests throughout the Twin Cities - all year long.

The City of Lakes Loppet in February invites cross country skiers to compete for prizes or recreationally, and the Twin Cities Marathon, held each fall in

both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, is dubbed The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America.

Call of the wild.St. Louis Parks Westwood Hills Nature Centers walking trails come alive with critters, waterfowl and foliage. In summer, Westwood Lake is a fishing paradise - whether by canoe or off the dock. In winter, snowshoes and kick sleds are available for rent. Plus, the Nature Centers resident naturalists host interactive classes throughout the year.

The Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley is home to exhibits that provide up-close experiences with animals and their habitats, introducing guests to species from around the globe. Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul houses animals and plants from around the world in a metropolitan setting. Sea Life Aquarium at Mall of America gives visitors a glimpse at over 10,000 creatures in their underwater home.

Getting crafty.Minnesota is well known for its craft beers and wineries. St. Louis Park is home to Steel Toe Brewing

Go retro!St. Louis Park and the Twin Cities boast a variety of museums and landmarks that take visitors on a walk down memory lane.

Galaxy Drive In in St. Louis Park is an old-school drive-in offering carside service. Along with classic drive in faire, the site offers a fire pit for guests to roast marshmallows over open flames and create their own delicious smores. The restaurant is open late Spring through late October. Their website offers open dates.

The Pavek Museum of Broadcasting in St. Louis Park houses one of the worlds finest collections of antique radio, television, and broadcast equipment. The museum has gained international recognition for its continuing efforts in preserving and documenting the history of an industry that has made monumental changes in the fabric of modern life.

In 1939, roadside parks were built along a stretch of Highway 100 called Lilac Way, including one in St. Louis Park. After years of being inoperable and in need of repair, the three-family fireplace along Hwy 100, commonly called The Beehive, was moved to a new park along Highway 7 right off the Southwest Trail trail. The park opened in 2008 and includes seating for bikers and walkers.

Roller Garden in St. Louis Park provides guests a chance to slap on some roller skates (or blades) and circle the floor with music and laser lights to set the mood. The skating center offers a variety of open skate times, skating lessons and space for parties and special events.

The St. Louis Park Historical Societys collection of historical documents is housed in The Depot in Jorvig Park, at 37th and Brunswick. The Depot, built in 1887, is open to visitors from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays throughout the summer.

St. Louis Park Retail & ShoppingShopping in Minnesota definitely has its benefits. The state offers tax-free shopping on clothing and some of the finest shopping centers and outlets in the country, if not the world.

St. Louis Park is home to four lifestyle centers, The Shops at West End, Excelsior & Grand, Ellipse on Excelsior, and Hoigaard Village; an enclosed mall, Knollwood Mall; and, two strip malls, Miracle Mile Shopping Center and Texa-Tonka Shopping Center.

St. Louis Park offers great specialty stores including: Hoigaards, Kiddywampus, LuLu & Luigi, Nordic Ware Factory Store, Micro Center and Opitz Outlets.

If youre looking for a large enclosed mall, Ridgedale Center in comfortably close in neighboring Minnetonka. To our south is the nations oldest indoor shopping center, Southdale Center and little bit further south you can find yourself at the massive Mall of America and a household goods favorite, IKEA.

    Arts & Culture

Toby Keiths I Love This Bar & Grill

Arts and culture are alive and thriving in St. Louis Park and throughout the Twin Cities. Performance venues and galleries are sprinkled throughout the area.

St. Louis Park is where youll find theatre troupes Public Theater of Minnesota and Maggies Farm Theater.

Veterans Memorial Amphitheater in Wolfe Park hosts concerts, dance troupes, theater and special events. The City of St. Louis Parks annual summer concert series and Parktaculars Saturday night concerts are held in the Amphitheater.

St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts (FoTA) is an active nonprofit community organization dedicated to supporting, promoting, and enhancing the arts in St. Louis Park. They connect people and organizations around the arts, share arts-related information and resources, and coordinate community arts programs. FoTAs website features a list of local artists and special events.

The Kersasotes Showplace ICON Theatres at The Shops at West End

boasts 16 digital screens and every seat in the theater is reserved. Two VIP theaters are reserved for those ages 21 and over with a full bar and restaurant on the same level. Mann St. Louis Park Cinema 6 also offers a convenient place to see new releases.

For an awesome concert experience, country fans love Toby Keiths I Love This Bar & Grill which offers national and local acts at least three days per week.

If active entertainment is more your style, The Park Tavern and Texa-Tonka Lanes provide bowling fun and Roller Garden provides old-school roller or inline skating. Or, hit the trail on a rented Segway or electric bike from Evolve Segway.

The Shops at West End plays host to numerous concerts, family events and special exhibitions. The shopping centers You Betcha! Minnesota-Made Festival is held annually in late summer and the popular Twin Cities Film Fest which premiers some of the best local and nationally produced films, runs for two weeks in mid-October.

2014 Event CalendarWhen it comes to finding culture in the Twin Cities, the area doesnt disappoint. Minnesota is known across the globe for its diverse selection of live music, dance performances, theater, festivals, museums and more. The Twin Cities boasts more theater seats per capita than any other U.S. city outside New York. The Tony award winning Guthrie Theater produces shows that premiere here before heading to Broadway. And, the area hosts national touring artists nearly every night of the week. Heres a partial list of whats coming up in St. Louis Park and surrounding areas.
