A Message from the County Executive...

The long, cold winter is coming to a close and I know we are all looking forward to warmer weather,

pools opening and the chance to get outside to enjoy all of the things our St. Louis County Parks has

to offer. Our parks system plays an important role in making St. Louis County an attractive place to live,

work and play. We are always looking for ways to live out our mission of providing high quality parks, facilities and

recreation services that enhance residents’ lives and promote an active lifestyle. The passage of

Proposition P last spring allowed us to complete several park maintenance projects that have been on

hold for several years. We have also been able to move forward with exciting new projects including a

new Dog Park in Queeny Park.

Several exciting events are planned for this summer including the return of the FEAST in the Park food truck

events, pool parties, the Automobile Series at the Museum of Transportation, outdoor programs for all ages and fitness

levels and, of course, the “can’t miss” Art Fair at Laumeier Sculpture Park. We are also offering a full range of summer

camps for kids of all ages and talents.

Please take the opportunity to look through our Activity Guide and see for yourself how St. Louis County Parks can

keep you and your kids busy throughout the spring and summer. We challenge you to get out and visit parks you haven’t

visited and seek out new experiences that will create lasting memories for you and your family.

Development though fun and creative activities. This program is committed to helping Young people become good gardeners and good citizens so they can make a positive contribution to their community , school and family. To enroll please let us know , or contact us @ (314) 615-8482 – Tonya or Doug. Or Email us @ [email protected] or [email protected]

Will we have any Fall Color of the fi rst crimson leaves of autumn, and learn about fall blooming crocus very similar to the spring blooming crocus. The ravages of heat, storms, drought, and humidity make the late summer garden appear so worn out that the freshness of newly emerging fall crocus and colchicum bulbs, Pansies, our cool weather crop are a breath of fresh air. One glimpse and you’ll suddenly want to bite into a crisp apple, or go on a hayride in a County Park, check it out in our Activity Guide www.stlouisco.com/parks. Some say nature saves her biggest show for fall, but I feel you need to appreciate each season Mother Nature has to give us.

Did You Know?

Even though the first day of summer is the longest day of the year, it’s not the hottest, due to something called seasonal temperature lag, which means that it takes a while for the oceans to let their stored summer solstice heat back into the air. That’s why it tends to be hotter in July or August than in June.
