Following this series, the Dodgers will host the Arizona Diamondbacks for three games next week, before hitting the road at San Diego (3) and Texas (2). Los Angeles still has the NL’s second-best winning percentage at .564, behind only the Cardinals. The Dodgers’ 21-9 (.700) record at home ranks third in the National League, trailing just St. Louis’ 22-7 mark (.759) and the Mets’ 21-8 (.724) record. With the Dodgers dropping four of five to the Cardinals this season, the Redbirds have nearly pulled even in the all-time series. Currently, the Dodgers hold the slimmest of advantages, 1,017-1,016 (with 16 ties). THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN: The Dodgers are in danger of losing four consecutive games for the first time since dropping four-in-a-row from Sept. 13-16, 2013, a span of 229 games. Before last season, the last Dodger team to go an entire campaign without losing four consecutive games was the 1988 World Championship squad. Including 10 Postseason contests, the Dodgers haven’t lost four-in-a-row to the Cardinals since losing four consecutive games July 24-Sept. 13, 2012. DOUBLE JEOPARDY: The Dodgers are also in peril of losing their first home series since getting swept by Milwaukee Aug. 15-17, 2014, a span of 13 series (12-0-1). That is the longest active streak in the Major Leagues. Los Angeles needs to win tonight and on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball tomorrow in order to keep its unbeaten streak alive. Kershaw’s 90 strikeouts are tied with Max Scherzer for second in the National League, two behind James Shields. He is on pace to surpass his career high of 248 strikeouts, established in 2011, and he is averaging 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings, which leads the NL and would be a career best.
