St Liborius Parish VISION: We, the St Liborius parish Community, seek to support each other in growing together in faith and sharing this faith with the wider community. St Augustines (Myers Flat), St Stephens (Raywood) Communities Growing Together 22nd May, 2016 - THE MOST HOLY TRINITY, YEAR c Fr Junjun Corner There are three monotheistic religions in the world: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Monotheism means worship in one God only. Mainstream Christianity however, professed our belief in one God revealing himself to us in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I say mainstream to stress the fact that there are some denominations who would call themselves Christians or Church of Christ, but don t profess Jesus Christ as God. For these denominations or sect, Jesus is only a Prophet or someone lesser than God. The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is always the core of our Christian faith from the beginning. But it wasn t always taken simply as such. There had been times in the history of the Church that the idea of One - God- in - three persons caused confusions and misunderstanding. Questions like: How could 1+1+1= 1?’ is just one example. But one answer would be, again in mathematical thinking, we dont add up, we multiply: 1x1x1=1 (God multiplied himself 3- fold). But this is a very simplistic explanation. To help us understand a bit of this doctrine is by analogy. For nature - lovers, God the Father is the Sun, the rays emanating the earth is the Son, and the warmth, the energy we feel and benefit from it is the Holy Spirit - 3 experiences from one reality. There is also an analogy of God as a perfect triangle- 3 perfect angles in one triangle. There is also an analogy of God as the burning candle: the candle, the light it produced and the heat it gives - 3 experiences in one reality. The doctrine of the Trinity is not an invention of the Catholic Church as some people may suggest. Fr Frank Moloney, SDB, affirms. He said: As early Christians thought more deeply about the mystery of Jesus, they began to realize that he belonged with the Father, and the Spirit, as the Son. He spoke of God as Abba ’, his Father, and he spoke of the gift of the Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the Holy Trinity therefore is a glimpse for us of the interior life of God as a perfect communion in love and as an assurance for us of God s willingness to share his unconditional love with us his creatures. The Father s love is so great that he shared it with us by not only creating us but by making as a good and beautiful creatures. The love of God for us is so great that when we messed up our being a creature of God, he sent his only Son to be God- with- us, to lay down his life for us and to restore our inherent goodness. The love of the Son for us is so great that He can t leave us orphans. He left us with the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is the presence of God- within- us. Let us praise and worship the Holy Trinity by sharing the love to all people. Amen. I pray you all have a blessed week. The Church feels the urgent need to proclaim Gods mercy. Her life is authentic and credible only when she becomes a convincing herald of mercy. She knows that her primary task, especially at a moment full of great hopes and signs of contradiction, is to introduce everyone to the great mystery of Gods mercy by contemplating the face of Christ. The Church is called above all to be a credible witness to mercy, professing it and living it as the core of the revelation of Jesus Christ. From the heart of the Trinity, from the depths of the mystery of God, the great river of mercy wells up and overflows unceasingly. It is a spring that will never run dry, no matter how many people draw from it. Every time someone is in need, he or she can approach it, because the mercy of God never ends. The profundity of the mystery surrounding it is as inexhaustible as the richness which springs up from it. In this Jubilee Year, may the Church echo the word of God that resounds strong and clear as a message and a sign of pardon, strength, aid, and love. May she never tire of extending mercy, and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort. Fr Junjun Corner There are three monotheistic religions in the world: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Monotheism means worship in one God only. Mainstream Christianity however, professed our belief in one God revealing himself to us in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I say mainstream to stress the fact that there are some denominations who would call themselves Christians or Church of Christ, but don’t profess Jesus Christ as God. (continued from last week)

25. I present, therefore, this Extraordinary Jubilee Year dedicated to living out in our daily lives the mercy which the Father constantly extends to all of us. In this Jubilee Year, let us allow God to surprise us. He never tires of casting open the doors of his heart and of repeating that he loves us and wants to share his love with us. The Church feels the urgent need to proclaim God’s mercy. Her life is authentic and credible only when she becomes a convincing herald of mercy. She knows that her primary task, especially at a moment full of great hopes and signs of contradiction, is to introduce everyone to the great mystery of God’s mercy by contemplating the face of Christ. The Church is called above all to be a credible witness to mercy, professing it and living it as the core of the revelation of Jesus Christ. From the heart of the Trinity, from the depths of the mystery of God, the great river of mercy wells up and overflows unceasingly. It is a spr ing that will never run dry, no matter how many people draw from it. Every time someone is in need, he or she can approach it, because the mercy of God never ends. The profundity of the mystery surrounding it is as inexhaustible as the richness which springs up from it.

May she never tire of extending mercy, and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort. May the Church become the voice of every man and woman, and repeat confidently without end: “Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old” (Ps 25:6).

Special congratulations James Trew who made it through to the next stage and to Brodie Coombs who just missed out by the narrowest of margins. Thank you to Mr Travis Ledwidge for all the work he has put into the Cross Country this year. MARIST COLLEGE

Dear Parents, Transition day – Year 7 Enrolments open Yesterday saw 155 students from Grade 6 experience a day as a Year 7 student at Marist. It was a day full of excitement and anxiety. We had students from 26 primary schools, but as the day evolved it was obvious that students were making new friends and breaking down their anxieties. Spirituality day Our Year Nine students were off site yesterday for their Spirituality Day. With a focus on Marist Values, Relationship with Jesus and then the Eucharist, our students had an enjoyable and challenging day. At the very end of the day we all attend a Year 9 Mass with Father JunJun. Father JunJun passed on his knowledge about the blood and body of Christ. Cross country On Tuesday 17 students went to Sebastian Harness Racing Reserve for the annual cross country meet. With wonderful weather and great excitement the students took to the track in their individual age groups. The distant run by each student was 3 km and both Miss Morrissey and I were proud of the positive and supportive team spirit amongst the students. Immunisations A reminder that Year 7 students have immunisations tomorrow and are asked to wear their physical education uniform. With our current cold mornings I encourage students to wear their tracksuit trousers over their shorts. Yours sincerely, Darren McGregor Principal
