His response was that a priest should never stay too long in one parish. He states that to keep it healthy and vibrant the priest must move and share the gospel of the Lord to new parishioners and people. Fr Antony belongs to a missionary society called the Missionary Society of St Thomas the Apostle (MST) which started in 1968, and he is one of the 3rd group of priests ordained. Now there are 340 priests working in 15 countries throughout the world . Father Antony is a member of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church which is one of the 22 Eastern (Oriental) Catholic Churches in full communion with Rome. It is the second largest Eastern Catholic Church after the Ukrainian Church and the largest of the Saint Thomas Christian (Nazrani) denominations with 4.8 million believers. The Syro-Malabar Church, with its deep-rooted spirituality and high rate of vocations to priesthood and religious life, can be considered as the most vibrant Catholic community in the world. The Syro-Malabar Church is an Apostolic Church which traces its origin to St. Thomas, the Apostle, who landed at Cranganore (Muziris) in 52A.D. and founded seven Christian communities in Kerala. St. Thomas was martyred in A.D. 72 at Mylapore, near Chennai/Madras. The early Christian community in India was known as St. Thomas Christians. They were also called Nazranis, meaning those who follow the path of Jesus of Nazareth. From early centuries the Church of St Thomas Christians came into contact with the East Syrian Church, which also traces its origins to apostle Thomas. From the fourth century until the end of the 16th Century Thomas Christians were governed by Bishops who were appointed and sent by the patriarch of the East Syrian Church. It is clear from the very first pages of the Bible that work is an essential part of human dignity; there we read that the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it(Gen 2:15). Man is presented as a labourer who works the earth, harnesses the forces of nature and produces the bread of anxious toil(Ps 127:2), in addition to cultivating his own gifts and talents. 24. Labour also makes possible the development of society and provides for the sustenance, stability and fruitfulness of ones family: May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! May you see your childrens children!(Ps 128:5-6). The Book of Proverbs also presents the labour of mothers within the family; their daily work is described in detail as winning the praise of their husbands and children (cf. 31:10-31). The Apostle Paul was proud not to live as a burden to others, since he worked with his own hands and assured his own livelihood (cf. Acts 18:3; 1 Cor 4:12; 9:12). Paul was so convinced of the necessity of work that he laid down a strict rule for his communities: If anyone will not work, let him not eat(2 Th 3:10; cf. 1 Th 4:11). History regarding New Parish Priest Fr Antony

Fr Antony, prior to coming to St Liborius, was Parish Administrator at Heathcote for approx. 5 years. In his Sunday sermon he referred to the people from Heathcote querying why he decided to leave the Parish: Wasn't he happy? Had the parishioners upset him. His response was that a priest should never stay too long in one parish. Fr Antony belongs to a missionary society called the Missionary Society of St Thomas the Apostle (MST) which started in 1968, and he is one of the 3rd group of priests ordained. On Love in the Family

Continued from last week 22. In this brief review, we can see that the word of God is not a series of abstract ideas but rather a source of comfort and companionship for every family that experiences difficulties or suffering. For it shows them the goal of their journey, when God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more” (Rev 21:4). The work of your hands 23. At the beginning of Psalm 128, the father appears as a labourer who by the work of his hands sustains the physical well-being and tranquillity of his family: “You shall eat the fruit of the labour of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you” (Ps 128:2). Man is presented as a labourer who works the earth, harnesses the forces of nature and produces “the bread of anxious toil” (Ps 127:2), in addition to cultivating his own gifts and talents. 24. Labour also makes possible the development of society and provides for the sustenance, stability and fruitfulness of one’s family: “May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! May you see your children’s children!” (Ps 128:5-6). The Book of Proverbs also presents the labour of mothers within the family; their daily work is described in detail as winning the praise of their husbands and children (cf. 31:10-31). PARISH MATTERS

WORSHIP REPORT The PPC recently requested a report which we refer to as the Worship report; regarding various people within the parish assisting Father to administer to his flock as he sees fit. We will be commenting on each of these groups over the next few weeks, informing you of the activities of each group and where we may be able to assist them. This week is on Extraordinary Minister of Communion. Elisabeth McDermott is one of approx. 18 extraordinary ministers of communion associated with St Liborius. For the past 14 years she has been active in this role. Elisabeth’s involvement as an extraordinary minister of Communion involves visiting Benetas (formerly St Laurence Crt) most Fridays on rotation. Elisabeth currently is on the weekend roster mass’s at St Liborius two or three times a month depending availability, could even be more. She gets great joy in taking the Blessed Sacrament to the elderly and has developed quite a relationship with most of them. The greatest challenges are finding an address if asked to visit someone in their home as well as also keeping to the roster if/when it clashes with other events. Along with all the other ministries associated with St Liborius she would encourage and welcome more people to become involved as an extraordinary minister of communion.

SUNDAY WELCOMERS WANTED We would love to have some extra people to welcome those who come to Sunday morning Mass. This would be on a roster system once a month. If you would like to do this please give your name in at the Parish Centre or contact Maureen Bourke on 54468821

ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Friends of St Liborius, Feast Day of Mary of the Cross MacKillop - On Monday 8th we will celebrate the feast day of Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Mary Helen MacKillop (15 January 1842 - 8 August 1909), also known as Saint Mary of the Cross, was an Australian Roman Catholic nun who, together with Father Julian Tenison Woods, founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart and a number of schools and welfare institutions throughout Australasia with an emphasis on education for the poor, particularly in country areas. Since her death she has attracted much veneration in Australia and internationally. Fr Antony will celebrated his first whole school mass with us for the feast of Mary MacKillop on Monday, which is exciting. Last week we held our Founders Day which provided the children with workshop activities around our catholic identity and those significant spiritual leaders of St Liborius school, including Mary MacKillop. We will conclude the day with a concert by Micheal Mangan, a sensational singer who has produced many of the songs that the children sing regularly at mass and during liturgies. St Liborius Athletics Carnival- This Friday the Yr 3-6 students will participate in the 2016 Athletics Carnival, which will be held at the Flora Hill athletics track. The weather is meant to be fine and with the help of a number of parents we should have a successful day. Tomorrow we welcome our SEDA student friends who will hold clinics for all the students. 2017 Prep Interviews - Next week I will begin the privilege of meeting with our new Preps and their families in preparation for the beginning of their formal education next year. This is a significant occasion for all involved and starts the transition pro-cess into St Liborius. Regards Frank Dullard, Principal

MARIST COLLEGE

Dear Parents, Senior Leadership Appointments - I am very pleased to announce the following three appointments. Mrs Kathy Hopkinson will join us as our F-4 Learning Experience Leader. Mr Jeremy Darmody will become the Years 5 - 8 Learning Experience Leader. Mr Brian Brasher joins us as our Years 9 - 12 Learning Experience Leader. We are indeed blessed to be able to attract and appoint leaders of such quality to join our Leadership Team from the beginning of 2017. Year 7 Spirituality Day - Congratulations to our Year 7 students on the wonderful day they created for their first Spirituality Day last Thursday. Being Ready to Learn - As we approach the middle of Term 3 our students are finding that the plump pencil cases they brought in at the start of Term 1 are looking a little skinnier. In order to ensure your young person is prepared to learn please chat with them to find out if they need some of their resources replenished. Child safety - I have mentioned in previous letters that all schools in Victoria are now required to ensure that children are in a safe environment at school. Last week we attached two important documents, which were difficult to read; so they are attached again this week in a clearer format. Any visitors to Marist will now be asked to read and abide by our Child Safety Code of Conduct. It is important for all parents to realise that this code of conduct applies to all adults (including parents) who visit the College. Darren McGregor Principal

What a Life!

Terri asked her Sunday School class to draw pictures of their favorite Bible sto-ries. She was puzzled by Kyle's picture, which showed four people on an air-

plane, so she asked him which story it was meant to represent.

"The flight to Egypt," said Kyle.

"I see ... And that must be Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus," Ms. Terri said.

"But who's the fourth person?"

"Oh, that's Pontius-the Pilot.
