REJOICE For He is coming!

Let your tolerance be evident to everyone; the Lord is very near.

Philippians 4:4

I’ve seen a slogan which says:

“The Lord is coming. Look busy.” It might be better to let your tolerance show? And

that could be a big ask - with the busyness that seems to always accompany this time of the year.

Today, Lord, keep me calm;

Let my tolerance show. In the midst of the commercial

And social busyness of this Season, help me to focus

On your Birth Day celebrations.

Advent Wreath The Fourth candle this week is called the

Angel’s Candle or the Candle of Love. We pause to pray for faith that opens our

lives to the Spirit of God.

Advent Symbols Candles have long been a symbol of Christ. A candle is lit at a baptism. The Paschal Candle is brought into a darkened church at the Easter Vigil, dispelling the darkness in its path. The Irish light a specially decorated candle on Christmas Eve and then pray for those nearest and dearest to them. They also began the tradition of placing a candle in the window at Christmas to provide a guide to those who have lost their way. Polish people place a candle in a loaf of bred combining the symbolism of Jesus as “the Bread of Life” and “the Light of the World.”

PARISH MATTERS

BRUNCH KITCHEN Last Brunch Kitchen will be Tuesday 13th December. Brunch kitchen will return in 2017 on February 7th.

DO YOU LOVE KNITTING OR CROCHETING? COMFORT BLANKETS ARE NEEDED

Our Comfort Blankets bring comfort to patients who may be missing their familiar surroundings or going through a hard time. They help to make patient rooms feel more homely and provide warmth in a cheerful and personal way. The ways we need help are:

Making up of blankets by sewing of squares together

Knitting or crocheting of squares for blankets:

8 ply wool (we can supply if we have donated wool on hand)

4mm needles (Size 8)

40 stitches X 80 rows

Granny squares of approximately 20cms

In the past knitters have been asked to leave a generous length of wool on the end of the squares to assist with sewing.

We use 49 squares to make the blankets

Donations of bright coloured wool.

Both for knitting and crocheting as well as sewing up of blankets.

We will also gratefully receive completed knitted or crocheted blankets for patients to be used as knee blankets or for their beds.

Please be assured that the above details are guidelines and we will be able to make use of whatever you may be able to donate or assist with. We would hope that by sharing the tasks around that it will never be too onerous. Anyone who would like to help can contact our Pastoral Care Team (attention Annie) on 54343227. Thank you in anticipation, Lynda Wyles - Pastoral Services Coordinator

PRAYER FOR ADVENT Dear Lord, through darkness,

I look for your wisdom. I want my heart to be open to you.

But sometimes in these days, it seems that so many things come between us.

Help me to be awake and aware of the radiance you bring to my life.

Help me to be grateful each day for the blessings of family and friends.

Let me be a peacemaker in my own life,

and in the world. Let me pray especially for this

difficult world and those who are so in need of an end to violence.

My heart begs for this as my Advent prayer today. Amen.

ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL - continued This year we have had the spiritual support of Fr JunJun, Fr Rom and in more recent times Fr Antony. I would like to thank all the priest’s for the way they have engaged with our school community and provided timely support to all. We look forward to continuing to work with Fr Antony particularly with our whole school and class masses and sacraments. On behalf of our school community I would like to thank and wish all the best to those staff who are leaving St Liborius. Over the past 34 years, Anne Young has been an amazing support to so many students, parents and teachers at St Liborius. Anne began her teaching career in 1970 and has taught throughout our Sandhurst Diocese over the past 46 years. We will miss Anne's expertise, quiet approach to teaching and her beautiful manner around our school and wish her all the very best in retirement. Thank you to the families who are finishing their time here at St Liborius as their children graduate or are moving to new educational settings. We appreciate all that you have brought to our school community. We wish you all the very best for the future. It is exciting to look forward to the 2017 school year! Have a Safe, Happy and Holy Christmas. Frank Dullard - Principal

OUR SCHOOLS BENDIGO & DIOCESAN MATTERS

ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL Our End of Year/Graduation Mass on Monday was a true celebration of a fantastic year at St Liborius. We came together as a faith community to thank the Lord for all that has been presented to us in the form of challenges and successes. The whole liturgy coordinated by Hollie Webster and beautifully led by Fr Antony, involved all of the students in various ways. Thank you to all the families for making the effort to come out and support each other as well as our departing Year 6 students. The presentations and reflections at the end of Mass paid tribute to the 7 years the Graduating class have had at primary school as well as some outstanding achievements by individuals. Thank you to the Catholic Women’s League who provided a scholarship to Ivy Carney Fisher for good citizenship and social justice, which will assist with attending catholic secondary school in Bendigo next year. The Eaglehawk Rotary Club award went to Allannah Smith for outstanding example to others and who represents the values of our St Liborius school community. Thanks to Kerry Krenz for presenting the Peter Krenz Awards which went to Delta Krause and James Cameron for showing good citizenship. We had the Sr Veronica Award for academic excellence awarded to James Campbell and Ronan James. Also the Watson Scholarship for outstanding sporting achievement went to Brodie Coombs and Lexie Moss. Thank you to Fr Antony for the engaging way he celebrated mass with us and for all of his support in 2016 along with the support of Fr JunJun and Fr Rom over the past several years. Spiritual/Passive Garden - The transformation of the area between the church and the Mercy Learning Centre has taken place over the past month with the elimination of uneven surfaces, installation of artificial grass, gardens, seating and labyrinth. The children are utilising this space beautifully and classes will be taking time to understand the purpose of the labyrinth as a powerful way to reflect and connect with God. There will be additional seating installed at the front of the school (Panton St) and near the staff lounge entrance. Thank you to the Parent’s Club for their support in funding this project which will directly benefit our school and parish community. Thank You Our St Liborius community have been such a support to one another this year with many assisting those in need within our school and beyond. The students have been exceptional and achieved so much this year. Parents and guardians have formed rich partnerships with the school and teachers have endeavoured to provide open lines of communication which has had a positive impact on the children’s learning. The staff have continued to be highly professional in their chosen vocation and their commitment to their work is to be commended. This has been acknowledged by many parents throughout the year. Also thank you to the staff leadership team who do a tremendous job in keeping their finger on the pulse and providing clear and informed direction for us all. Thank you to the Parent’s Club under the leadership of Deb Rye & Marg Bibic and the School Board under the leadership of Sam Daykin, for their representation of the parent body of St Liborius. I encourage parents to take an active role in these parent bodies to enrich our school community. Also thank you to Shandelle Filmer in the tuckshop for her commitment to providing this service and her band of volunteers each Friday.

ROSTERS

What a Life! Rule #8:

Never buy a man anything that says "some assembly required" on the box. It will ruin his Special Day and he will always have parts left over. No one knows why.

Rule #13: It's hard to beat a really good wheelbarrow or an aluminium extension ladder. Never buy a real man a stepladder. It must be an extension ladder. No one knows

why.

Rule #14: Rope. Men love rope. It takes us back to our cowboy origins, or at least The Boy

Scouts. Nothing says love like a hundred feet of 3/8" manila rope. No one knows why.
