RESIDENT HOUSE ASSISTANT

We are looking to appoint a Resident House Assistant (RHA) who will be on-duty 37 hours per week and on-call 14 hours per week during term time only. Please note that exact hours of work are yet to be finalised. This is a live-in position initially for a fixed term of until the end of the 2016/2017 academic year. 13

GENERAL DESCRIPTION A Resident House Assistant is

required to uphold and actively promote the ethos of St Leonards.

He/she participates as a member of the Boarding Team under the direction of and reporting to the Housemaster/Housemistress (HsM) of the Boarding House in which he/she is resident. He/she will be occasionally required to support another Boarding House Team and

Resident House Assistant – August 2016 support other school activities. Ultimately he/she is accountable to the Headmaster.

He/she participates in the care and welfare of residential students primarily, but not exclusively, in one Boarding House.

He/she participates in the day-to-day running of Boarding at St Leonards.

COMPETENCIES

The RHA requires the ability to work independently and with initiative to complete a range of tasks. He/she will be an effective team worker and communicator. He/she will be able to care for residential pupils according to care practice standards and uphold the values and ethos of St Leonards.

All new pastoral staff who are not registered teachers or who do not possess a Care

Qualification from those listed with the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC), need to become registered with SSSC six months after commencing employment. In instances where full SSSC registration is sought, the employee would need to become Care Qualified within three years.

WORKING HOURS

Single accommodation is provided in the boarding house every day of the academic year circa late August to

late June. During term time the Resident House Assistants are expected to be “in residence” between 4-6 nights per week (i.e. from 11.00pm to 7.00am); should their sleep be disturbed during these hours they will receive compensatory pay.  They will also be expected to be “on duty” 37 hours per week and “on call” for 14 hours per week between the hours of 7.00am and 11.00pm. Please note that exact hours of work are yet to be finalised. Details of actual working hours (House Rota) will be given to them by their Housemaster/mistress.

SALARY

The annual salary for a RHA working 37 hours per week is £12,971 per annum. Meals are available and free of charge in the school dining room during term time.
