Preparing For Pentecost Sunday
Next Sunday the Church celebrates Pentecost Sunday, the coming of the Holy Spirit and the Birthday of the Church. Together let’s celebrate the great gift of the Holy Spirit and continue to evangelize and share the joy of the Gospel. Here are some suggestions: Wear something Red on Pentecost Sunday: Red is the color of the Holy Spirit. Our priests and deacons will wear red vestments next weekend and I encourage you to also wear red. Allow your outer garments to be a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit within you. Let’s turn the parish red for Pentecost! Invite someone to Mass next weekend: All of us know someone who has fallen away from the faith and for one reason or another has stopped coming to Mass. All of us know someone, perhaps they are not Catholic, who do not have God in their life at all. Call upon the Holy Spirit for the courage to invite someone to Mass with you next weekend. Allow the Lord to work through you. What a gift that is, to lead a person to encounter the love and mercy of Jesus the Lord. Speakers from the Convocation of Catholic Leaders: At all our Masses next week I invited parishioners who attended the Convocation of Catholic Leaders to speak briefly at our Masses. They will share with you the joy they felt and the call to become more involved in our parish and to encourage others also to become more involved in the life of our parish. How can you serve? Pray to the Holy Spirit for the grace to serve our parish in some way. There are many opportunities to serve the Lord at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Shrine. Join us for the Anointing of the Sick Mass: Next Sunday, June 9th, we will also celebrate a Mass for the Anointing of the Sick at 2:30 in St. Lawrence Church. Please join us and invite a neighbor or family member who has a need of this Healing Sacrament. God Bless you and your family, Come Holy Spirit,
enlighten our hearts, Father Vince
ilumina nuestros corazones, Padre Vicente

Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass of the Anointing of the Sick
Our Parish will have a Mass of the Anointing of the Sick on
Pentecost Sunday, June 9, at St. Lawrence Church, at 2:30 pm. Please inform family members and friends. The Sacrament of
Anointing is appropriate for those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or advanced age.
enfermedad o edad avanzada.
PENTECOST SUNDAY – WEAR YOUR RED – INVITE SOMEONE TO MASS
Pentecost Sunday is the weekend of June 8th and 9th, and we
celebrate the birthday of the Church and the fire of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. Pentecost is a special time to once again
recognize that the Holy Spirit IS with you and inspires you to continue the work of the first disciples. We do this by our
involvement in the church and by sharing the Joy of the Gospel and our faith in Jesus as Our Lord and Savior. The diocese is seeking “to turn the diocese red” by wearing something red to
Mass on Pentecost Sunday. (I suppose even a Phillies shirt will work if it is worn with a faithful spirit). Also, Pentecost is
wonderful opportunity to invite a family member, friend, or neighbor to Mass with you. I pray we can fill our churches on
Pentecost Sunday with a sea of red. Come, Holy Spirit!
HELP WANTED – YOUTH MINISTER
A goal of our Catholic Strong Campaign, and our Joy of the Gospel Team, was to promote youth ministry. With this goal in mine, and thanks to the parishioner’s generosity, the parish now seeks to hire a Part-Time Youth Minister. The applicant must be
an active member of the Roman Catholic Church, with experience in youth ministry and/or certificate or degree in youth ministry.
The position requires recruitment of youth from our school, faith formation program, and large community and the ability to work flexible hours. If you are interested please call the parish office
and ask for our pastor, Father Vince Guest, at 856-627-2222.
10th ANNIVERSARY PARISH CHARM BRACELET
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Parish, we had designed a Unity Bracelet, consisting of medals representing the churches that make up our
parish. On the bracelet are medals of St. Lawrence, Our Lady of Grace, St. Luke, and Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is not a
fundraiser as we are offering the bracelets essentially at cost, for only $15.00 each. This is a wonderful way to show we are One Parish Family, united in prayer through the intercession of our
Blessed Mother and the Saints. Bracelets may be purchased at the Parish Office.
The Parish Gospel Challenge / El Desafío del Evangelio Parroquial
The Acts of the Apostles Reflection Questions for Week 4;
Acts of the Apostles, Chapters 22-28 Chapter 22: When Paul was called, Jesus said: “Why are you persecuting me?” Do you recognize the person of Christ in all you meet? Paul shared his life’s mission with the people. Have you thought about your life’s mission in relation to your faith? Chapter 23: This chapter reads like an adventure novel, as the Jews seek to kill Paul, and some Romans seek to protect him. Do you see that the events of Paul’s life might be a positive influence upon the highest levels of the Roman Empire? How and where can your life be a positive influence in the world today? Chapter 24: Here we learn that Paul spent over two years in prison for preaching about The Way of Jesus. Have you ever been falsely accused by others because of your beliefs? What can Paul teach you? Chapter 25: As an attorney I admire Paul’s defense, do you see that he asserts he is both a faithful Jew and good citizen of the Roman Empire? What do you find most inspiring and motivating about the travels, speeches, and adventures of Paul? Chapter 26: Paul continues to defend himself, this time before King Agrippa. Even at trial, Paul gives witness to Christ. How can you give witness to the Lord in the midst of life’s struggles? If you were on trial for being a Christian would there be sufficient evidence to convict you? Chapter 27: This chapter tells of Paul’s dangerous journey and shipwreck (near present day Malta) as they sail for Rome. Like Jesus, Paul assures all on the ship to have courage, that they will all be safe. Like Jesus, Paul takes bread, gives thanks to God, and share it. Think of your fears and worries and place them in the hand of Jesus, as Paul did. Chapter 28: Paul’s journey is complete as he reaches Rome, the capital of the world at the time. Although a prisoner he is allowed to preach about Jesus to the Jews and all who would listen. The ending of the Acts of the Apostles leaves us hanging because now it is our turn to follow the example of Paul and to call on the Holy Spirit and bravely live our faith in our family and community. What have you learned from reading this book of the Bible? How has the Acts of the Apostles inspired you? Pray to the Holy Spirit, and to Saints Peter and Paul, for faith and courage to proclaim the name of Jesus in our world today.
(Note some of these questions were written with assistance from the Threshold Bible Study: Acts of the Apostles, Part
Two, Chapters 15-28, by Stephen J. Binz.)
Binz).

Another Great Track and Field Season!
Our Track and Field Team had its Championship Meet last Saturday. Girls
fought hard for third place and Boys took fifth place. Coaches are really proud of all the hard
work they put in to the season and the sportsmanship they showed
throughout the season as well. The team also honored our 8th Grade students and wished them well as they head to high school in the
fall. They will be missed!
Students in the Middle School Zoology exploratory discussed and worked with arthropods this week. Arthropods include insects, spiders, and scorpions. They used preserved specimens for labeling and drawing and did research on ipads. It generated some great class discussions. Students also walked away with knowledge of how arthropods are an essential component of creation and their functions in creation.
