WE ARE ALWAYS GRATEFUL TO GOD

by Fr. Steven T. Williams In the past month Scred Heart closed for the winter and our students began their school year. Let us keep them in our prayers. Please pray for their parents, teachers, coaches and all involved in their formation. The RCIA program has begun. Please think of anyone you would like to invite to become Catholic. Invite him/her! It is a wonderful program. Call Barry Little at the parish office, for more information. We are in the midst of our “Generations of Faith” campaign. Thank you to all who have already given and those who are praying for the success of the campaign. Two of our former seminarians stopped by to visit. Br. John Mary (Jeremy Winter) is now a Carmelite, and Br. Joseph (Alex Bouche) is now a Benedictine. Many times while in the seminary, young men find their way to religious orders. Let us keep them in our prayers as they dis-cern. Lastly, I don’t talk about my family very much, but they are important to me. Thank you again for the hundreds of cards/memorials I received upon the death of my mother. I continue to miss her daily. Again, thanks for your prayers. I baptized my great niece, Lucy Lynn Cox. What a joyful occassion!

ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US FOR BINGO IN THE GYM! PLEASE CALL TO RESERVE A SPACE. TABLES WILL BE SOCIALLY DISTANT IN THE GYM, WITH FAMILY STYLE DINNER SERVED!

HELLO and WELCOME!

Get Ready! The Fall Campaign for 40 Days for Life officially begins Wednesday, September 23 through November 1st. Will you please join us this year? The Campaign is based on 3 peaceful approaches. You are asked to commit to 1, 2, or all 3 approaches: 1. Prayer and Fasting 2. Constant Vigil 3. Community Outreach Prayer and Fasting can be done in the privacy of your own home. Praying the Rosary or the Divine Mercy Chaplet and offering it for the unborn babies and their parents or simply praying your own prayer of life. Constant Vigil is praying out-side Planned Parenthood in Mobile, anyday, anytime. How-ever, St Lawrence does have a designated day which is every Wednesday during the 40 days. Community Outreach has many different looks. For example, posting a pro-life mes-sage on your social media, placing a pro-life sticker on your car, or contributing to the March for Life Mobile event this January. There will be activities available for all age groups, from el-ementary to Edge students, to Life Teen and Adults. Oppor-tunities for involvement include the following:

Commitment Sunday is September 20th. Sign com-mitment cards which will be located inside the church, posted on St. Lawrence Facebook, and sent out through email. Com-mit to 1, 2, or all 3 approaches. Choice is yours! Sign up to pray outside Planned Parenthood in Mo-bile. Wednesday is our designated day but any day you can make it would be great. Sign up sheets will be in the church foyer. Life Chain - participate in a National Life Chain for the Pro-Life message on Sunday, October 4th from 2:30 to 3:30 on Hwy. 98 (pending city approval). This is a family friendly event. Attend the Mass across the street from Planned Par-enthood in Mobile on Thursday, October 22. Ride the church bus leaving at 6:30am & returning by 8:30am. Support the local March for Life Mobile by donating $5 to this grass roots initiative. The march in Mobile is the same day as the National March in Washington D. C. PLEASE get involved anyway you can. Prayer is the most im-portant factor. Interested in helping with the Fall campaign, please contact Lisa Word at 404-307-1355.

WHAT IS GENERATIONS OF FAITH?Generations of Faith is an endowment campaign to raise $30 mil-lion in gifts and pledges for seminarian formation, priest retire-ment, youth ministries, and local parish needs. WHO WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE CAMPAIGN?All parishes and missions will participate in the campaign during specific “blocs” of activity from 2019-2021. The Pilot Bloc ran from August 2019-January 2020 and is followed with Blocs 1 and 2 in sub-sequent six-month periods thereafter. WHY IS THE ARCHDIOCESE EMBARKING ON AN EN-DOWMENT CAMPAIGN OF THIS MAGNITUDE? A campaign of this scope is being undertaken to ensure a vibrant and stable future of hope for our Archdiocese. The endowments created through this campaign will provide for our seminarians, retired priests, and youth ministry efforts at the local parish and mission level. The impact of this campaign will last for generations to come. HOW WILL THE CAMPAIGN STRENGTHEN LOCAL PARISHES?Our parishes are the heart of our Archdiocese, and we must ensure their strength and stability. Generations of Faith will strengthen lo-cal parishes by allotting $6 million in funds to support local proj-ects that have been decided by the parishioners and pastors of each local church. Every parish and mission will receive 20% of all funds raised up to their Archdiocesan goal to address defined local projects and needs. Once a parish has surpassed their goal, 80% of every dollar raised above goal will remain with the parish for ad-ditional local investment.

HOW WILL CAMPAIGN FUNDS SUPPORT CLERGY?Generations of Faith will direct $18 million to supporting the holy men who serve us, both in their seminary years and through their retirement. This Archdiocese is currently blessed with 21 young men that are following God’s calling to the Priesthood. The Arch-diocese currently has 25 retired priests, and 11 more that will be eligible to retire within the next five years. Generations of Faith will ensure that all levels of our clergy will be supported long-term. HOW WILL THE CAMPAIGN EMBRACE YOUTH MINIS-TRY?A strong Church tomorrow requires today’s youth to remain active and engaged members of the Church in their adulthood. The Youth Ministry Endowment will serve as an aid to initiate or enhance youth ministry in parishes and missions throughout the archdio-cese. ARE GIFTS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?By law, all gifts are in fact tax-deductible. You will receive an ac-knowledgement of your gift for tax purposes. Please consult with your tax and financial experts for additional help on this matter. BESIDES A PLEDGE, HOW ELSE CAN I PARTICIPATE?Prayer is at the heart of the Gospel. Every family will be asked to pray for the success of Generations of Faith, as well the Archdio-cese of Mobile. Additionally, every pastor will require volunteer support to ensure successful local campaigns. If you are interested in helping in any way, contact Lise Galle at [email protected]

School has begun and Life Teen is excited to be starting their new normal! Father Steve and I have spent months examining how to better serve our young people, and are now ready to launch our new Life Teen program this Fall. Starting in September, Life Teen will look quite different than in the past few years. Our months will reflect this basic format: • One Sunday a month we will have a large group meeting with a fun activity, like Laser Tag, Nerf battle or game night. This will usually fall on the first Sunday of the month. • On the other Sundays, teens will gather to eat a meal in a large group, and then split off into their small groups. • On the third Wednesday of each month, we will worship God in adoration, along with Edge. We’ll offer Confession and praise and worship, and will follow Adoration with open gym. There are a number of reasons for making this change, but mainly to better focus on helping our young people learn how to be Disciples of Jesus. As this is the entire goal of the Christian life, our goal at Life Teen is to help our teens leave St. Lawrence ready to live life in the Truth of Christ and His Church. Small groups will include an adult leader and 10 or less teens. Teens will be allowed space to be seen, known and loved, as well as to receive the answers to the specific questions they have on their hearts. Each group will dive deeply into the areas of the

As school resumed around our community, Fr. Steve took the time to bless and pray over the students of St. Michael Catholic High School. He also enjoyed offering Mass for the students of St. Michael at their first regular weekly school Mass. We are so glad that the students were able to gather and pray together at Mass for the first time this year. The student body was divided into two groups for Mass to ensure safety and social distancing. We pray for all those return-ing to school and in a particular way that God keep our young people safe, healthy, and holy!

ST. MICHAEL’S MASS

Judy Pickening, Bea Evans, Susie Weiss, and Shannon Roh enter into the prayer and painting reflection.

Danielle Gross creates a beautiful painting through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Babette and Lauren Authement enjoy quality time together during the retreat.

“Our real journey in life is interior: it is a matter of growth, deepening, and of an ever greater surrender to the creative action of love and grace in our hearts. Never was it more necessary for us to respond to that action.”

-Thomas Merton

The Ladies’ Evening Retreat was such a beautiful opportunity to experience a night of fellowship and prayer. The evening began with a variety of sweet and savory delights - charcuterie with wine and sparkling water accompanied by truffles, lemon bars, and chocolate strawberries from Something Sweet in Daphne. It was such a treat! The evening continued with meditating on the joyful mysteries of the rosary while intuitive painting, led by Jessa Pippin. The intuitive painting was a great exercise in being vulnerable and listening to the Holy Spir-it. The evening ended with Adoration, Praise and Worship, and Benediction. The retreatants were encouraged to find peace with Our Lord during that time and to focus on being daughters of the Creator of the Universe. The retreat was a prayer-ful and peaceful experience for those attending. Be on the lookout for information regarding the next Ladies’ Evening Retreat.

A Ladies Evening of Reflection

Jessa Pippin guides the retreatants in the spiritual painting exercise while Afton led the meditations and Rosary.

For safety, St. Michael is offering two school Masses to limit the size of the group. One half meets outside at the big top tent for Mass.

Fr. Gabe preaches to the students the importance of committing to confirm your life to Christ and His mission.

We have had more young people receive the sacrament of First Holy Communion over the past few weeks and most recently Carson Ghassemi took part on August 16th. We reiterate that we are thankful to all those who helped prepare and minds and hearts for the joyous occasion to be in Union with our Lord Jesus Christ. Please continue to keep these young people and their families in your prayers.

New This Year! The Christmas Bazaar Committee is offering sponsorship

opportunities through advertisements and donations.

This year the silent auction will feature online bidding. Typically Christmas Bazaar sees about 2,000 people

throughout the course of the weekend.

With the implementation of online bidding, we hope to reach many more people

just through advertising of the online auction. This is a great opportunity to advertise your business to our parishioners and local community or just to support

the Bazaar for St. Lawrence as a donation.

If it gets to a point where the Christmas Bazaar Committee decides to cancel the Bazaar at St. Lawrence due to COVID-19, we are

hoping to implement all the different facets of our Bazaar onto this online forum as well.
