Remember O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrow-ful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Many times at the start of a new year, we set new goals and resolu-tions for improvement. St. Laurence Catholic School is no different. While we continue to offer our students a faith-based education that is second to none, many new and exciting things are happening in our building. We are close to completing the first phase of our Extreme Makeover. The building has a bright and fresh new look thanks to the many volunteers who have of-fered their time and talents. Our school library reopened last week and gave our entire student body the opportunity to check out books and read with their class buddies. While our focus has been on ways to incorporate technology into the classroom and prepare our students for the future, there is nothing quite like a visit to the library. We are excited to be able to offer that to our students each week. Last week, we began our “Every Minute Counts” Zero Tardy Campaign to team with our families to promote the importance of punctuality and the value of learning time. I am happy to report that, in the first week, we saw a decline from our average of 9 tardy students each day to 4! Our new Mass Buddy program con-tinued with our kindergarten and 3rd/4th grade buddies meeting at the 11:00 Mass on Sunday and completing a project afterward in the cafeteria. Our preschool Sunday School clas-ses are also a huge hit with our young-er students. Winter Wonderland Bingo last weekend was another fun-filled family

event that was enjoyed by all! This weekend, our 5th grade boys’ basketball team attempts to add a confer-ence tournament win to their 1st place regular season conference win. Mark your calendar for Saturday, January 27th as

we kick off Catholic Schools Week with our Spaghetti dinner and Art Auction! (See the flyer on the back page of the bulletin.)

I also invite you to check out our St. Laurence Catholic School Facebook page for daily updates as well as our website at www.stlaurenceschool.com. I hope everyone in our Parish and school family has a wonderful week! Wendy

On January 22, 1973 a Supreme Court ruling known as Roe v. Wade effectively legalized abor-tion in the United States. For this reason, the month of January is often set aside as a month of prayer

and activism for the legal protection of the unborn. Is your parish doing anything to keep this intention in the minds and hearts of your parishioners? To accompany any prayer or activism efforts, consider educating your parishioners on the dignity of life and the current social issues surrounding it. To get you started, we have compiled a list of recommended resources for you to share with your community on exactly this topic!

Congratulations to all our School and PREP Students who made their First Reconciliation on January 17th! What a joyous occasion – let us all celebrate with them over the wonderful sacraments Jesus gives us to grow closer to Him.

Please join us for St. Laurence’s 1st Chil-dren’s Mass Saturday, January 27th – 4PM

Announcing one weekend Mass each month will be celebrated as a Children’s Mass – for youth & by youth, featuring student readers, family gift bearers, children’s choir, and jun-ior ushers. If your son/daughter is interested in beng involved, contact Briana Collins at [email protected]

Vocations Corner: Forgiving Ourselves! One of the most powerful actions that we can perform in our lives is forgiveness. When we hold onto things rather than letting them go, all they do is hold us down. This of course makes sense in regards to dealing with hurts that others have caused us, but do we ever think about the need to forgive ourselves? So often we hold on to weaknesses from the past or to failures from long ago. These memo-ries keep us from having the confidence that we need to step out in Faith and go when God is calling us. It’s as if we’ve fallen down over and over, and we’re afraid to get back up because we fear that we’ll simply fall again. It’s probably true that we will fall again, but as long as you take a few steps forward (even one step makes a difference!) then it’s worth all of the effort. On the other hand, if we stay down, we have 0% chance of ending up where God is calling us, and if we don’t try to follow, then we’ll most likely not find the peace and joy that we all seek. So today, do what you need to do to forgive yourself, and let God pick you back up. A great resource for this is the sacrament of confession, when we can be as-sured that God wipes it all away. Since God wipes it all away, we need to try to do the same in our hearts and minds!
