others and returns them with increase to the Lord.”

God Answers Prayers

From the Pastor's DeskMy Dear Beloved Children and Family of St. Jude, As I reflect on my years spent with you I can’t help but feel the joy of knowing you and the pain of leaving you. We shared together over 9 years, lots of good times and hard times. When I came to you, our Parish family was in need of a loving father to share their joy and sadness, their ups and downs and to bring Christ’s love and ministry to them, to know that God loves us no matter what and to remind us that we are all the children of God called to be Saints. Every day that we burn incense we are reminded that as incense rising to God - may our prayers rise to Him mingled with the incense, as a sign of thanksgiving to God for the gift of Life as sign of glorification for creating us in His image and likeness, and as a sign of sanctification calling us to be Saints. Believe me, it is not easy to be a Saint. It takes hard work, sacrifices, pain, suffering, dedication, commitment, total obedience to God’s will and definitely faith, hope and love and the greatest is love - love of God, love of neighbor and love of self. Each of us has to pick up his/her cross and follow Jesus and accept His will, as hard as it is and with the grace of God we will reach sainthood and the joy of eternal life. Our time together was very fruitful and rewarding. God blessed me with a beautiful parish community, the family of Christ and parishioners who are loving, kind, dedicated and generous with their time, talents and treasure. There were many volunteers who helped me with ministering in our church especially Deacon Jack, Sr. Rose, DRE and her helpers, our Office Staff, the Decorating committee, the Parish Council, the Women’s League, the Lectors, the Choirs, the Ushers, the Altar Servers, Lenten team, Festival of Baskets team, Golf Outing committee, Christmas Party committee, the Maintenance team, the Church and Hall cleaning team, the Sunday hospitality and all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to keep our Parish vibrant and running. Thanks be to God and to all of you. Now it is time to say goodbye. I trust in the Lord that he will keep watching over you to continue to prosper and to keep serving Him. I pray that your new Pastor, Fr. Elie will continue our mission and will love you as a Father and that you will share with him your love in return. Now that our Parish is debt free and the mortgage is paid, fully 10 years ahead of time, as we can see in the financial statement we are finally set and at the end of August we had $152,470. (see Financial Statement on p.5 of this bulletin)This does not include the month of September’s income and the future income from our Festival of Baskets in October. My fatherly advice to you is keep on working and helping your church and your Pastor in laboring for the Kingdom of God. Keep on loving and keep on sharing your time, talent and treasure and may our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reward you for all your love and good deeds. Amen. Love you all. Please keep me, as well as, my future Parish, St. Maron in your prayers and you are always in my heart and prayers. Love, Abouna Bassam

3RD SUNDAY AFTER THE HOLY CROSS

DAILY READINGS“Christianity does not exist without the Cross. The Cross is not an ornament to place on the altar but is the mystery of God’s love who takes our sins upon Himself.” Pope Francis

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS - Fourth Week of the Holy Cross: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11& Matthew 24:45-51

Philippians 3:17-4:1 Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers, and observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. For many, as I have often told you and now tell you even in tears, conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction. Their God is their stomach; their glory is in their “shame.” Their minds are occupied with earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body by the power that enables him also to bring all things into

subjection to himself. Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, beloved.

Matthew 24:23-31 If anyone says to you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. False messiahs and false prophets will arise, and they will perform signs and wonders so great as to deceive, if that were pos-sible, even the elect. Behold, I have told it to you beforehand. So if they say to you, ‘He is in the desert,’ do not go out there; if they say, ‘He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For just as lightning comes from the east and is seen as far as the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather. “Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Mon.: Rev 7:9-17 & Matthew 24:32-44Tues.: Rev 10:1-11 & Luke 6:20-26Wed.: Rev 11:1-12 & Luke 5:33-39Thurs.: Rev 12:1-12 & Luke 21:34-38Fri.: Rev 13:1,2b-4,6-7,11-12,15-18 & John 5:17-23Sat.: Revelation 14:1-8,13 & John 5:24-30

Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus while before Your face I humbly kneel and, with burning soul, pray and beseech You to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity; true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment. While I contemplate, with great love and tender pity, Your five most precious wounds, pondering over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, Your prophet, said to You, my Jesus: “They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones.” Amen.
