    FROM THE DEACON’S DESK

God Bless You, Deacon Jack [email protected]

These words were spoken by Jesus just after seventy-two of his disciples had returned from their mission of proclaiming the Kingdom and doing the same work as He was doing. They

echo words He had spoken to them earlier: “Knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of God has been granted to you; but to the rest, they are made known through parables so that ‘they may look but not see and hear but not understand’ (Luke 8:10). In many ways through this passage we are overhearing an “insider” conversation with the Father and Christ’s inner circle of disciples privately - and are being given a look into how salvation actually comes about. Jesus is rejoicing - through the Holy Spirit (we find the entire Trinity in this verse for The Spirit’s work is implied throughout) - a prayer of praise - addressed to God as Father & Lord of Heaven and Earth. God reveals Himself and His grace only to those He has chosen in His good pleasure. Who does He choose to reveal His grace to? (vs. 21) Not the wise and learned, but those who are helpless, weak and dependent upon Him! How and what does He choose to reveal? (vs. 22) God reveals Himself and His Grace only in the Son (and through the Spirit). All that is needed is eyes and ears for the Spirit to open as the Savior reveals Himself to them - It’s a matter of God’s spirit opening up the eyes and ears of people to receive Jesus. When does He reveal Himself? (vs. 23, 24) Many prophets and kings lacked eyes and ears though they wanted to see prophetic revelations. Scriptures pointed them to Christ and they did not see this. Jesus reveals Himself when we come to know Him ourselves with our own eyes and ears of faith. We should realize that the only thing that causes Jesus joy is the salvation of His people. It is very hard for some to discern the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives, but there are also many who easily know that they have with them the presence of the Holy Spirit. What is the key then for the Holy Spirit to gain entrance into our lives? The key is childlike humility, unless we become like children who solely depends on their parents for nourishment we will not be aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence.

2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-6 MINISTERS OF A NEW COVENANT Brothers and Sisters: Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Surely we do not need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you or from you, do we? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all; and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are competent of ourselves

to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who mas made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Praise be to God always!

LUKE 10:1-7 THE MISSION OF THE SEVENTY-TWO The Evangelist writes: After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. This is the truth. Peace be with you.

  • Greetings from your parish of Saint Jude Maronite Catholic Church, Recently you received a letter from our beloved pastor, Father Bassam M. Saade regarding our current outstanding mortgage. As he concludes his time with us, it our hope to give him one last gift to make our parish “debt free”. His ministry to us over these nine years has been exemplary. We are grateful for all he has done for us as

a community and for us personally. You most probably have been personally helped by his ministry and service and prayers. Our parish council and others in our parish have wholeheartedly taken up the challenge to make this happen before the end of summer, August 1, 2018. While we understand that meeting this goal in a brief few months will be challenging, we have already made our commitment and now ask you to join us and make yours. We have had the opportunity to thank Father Bassam for his 25 years of priestly ministry and for his tenure with us as pastor. Now let us offer one more thanks to plan a “mortgage burning” party before summer ends. We will not be able to do this without your help! Please be receptive to our phone call or visit; or please call to make your leadership gift to this effort. While this gift will be an encouragement to Father Bassam, it will even more importantly take our parish to the next level of involvement by strengthening the involvement and commitment of all of us in this worshipping community and our commitment as Christians.

Thank you very much for your consideration! Sincerely, Amine Harb Parish Council President & Chair of the Mortgage Burning CampaignMortgage Burning Campaign Members: Mr. Amine Harb Dr. Elias Maroun Dr. Fouad Hajjar Mrs. Gail Bell Dr. Samuel Wakim Mr. Khalil Abou-Jaoude
