ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH
From the Pastor’s Laptop
Father Mark Wagner The joy of Christmas
and the jubilation of the Jubilee Year are already felt today in our Gospel s tory about the Visitation by Mary to h e r c o u s i n Elizabeth. The two pregnant women are filled with joy. Elizabeth is grateful that Merciful Mary has come to help her. Elizabeth “blesses” Mary for performing this work of mercy: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.” (Luke 1:42-44)
Pope Francis has two favorite words: “joy” and “mercy”. A few months ago, Pope Francis canonized the Franciscan Missionary, Saint Junipero Serra. About 30,000 people attended the Mass on the steps of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the I m m a c u l a t e C o n c e p t i o n i n Washington D.C. In his homily Pope Francis told us that we should first

experience God’s mercy, and then find joy in proclaiming it to others: “The source of our joy is an endless desire to show mercy, the fruit of our own experience of the power of the Father’s infinite mercy. Go out to all… a Christian finds joy in mission: Go out to people of every nation!” (Sept. 23, 2015)
When mercy himself was born it was in tiny Bethlehem, which was “too small” to be mentioned among the towns of Judah. God always chooses that which is small. He chose a humble maiden for his mother. He chose a tiny town which was known only as a place where bread could be obtained (Beth=house; Lehem=of bread). He became a tiny baby and took the form of bread in order to spread his joy to the whole world. Jesus himself is the “work of mercy” which gives food to the hungry and drink to the thirsty! God gave “wine to gladden their hearts… and b r e a d t o s t r e n g t h e n m a n ’ s heart.” (Psalm 104:15)

Respect Life
Every month during the Year of Mercy we are reflecting on Works of Mercy
Parish Works of Mercy for December: “Feed the
Hungry and Give Drink to the
Thirsty”
Parish Actions for this Week:
1. Many are thirsty for your merciful forgiveness. Forgive
someone today by giving them a “drink” of Christ’s love.
2. Steward our water resource wisely, by protecting our environment, so there is clean water for others to drink and use.
3. Pray for mercy so that you can help others without feeling compelled to judge them first
4. Support the work of our St. Vincent de Paul Ministry by providing food donations, asking others to help or calling to volunteer.
5. Support the work of our St. Joseph’s Bread Ministry by offering to help prepare, serve and deliver meals to the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter.
6. Read about Saints who were called to give their lives to help others in need: www.americancatholic.org

For more information about St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus, please contact Grand Knight, Mike Glendon
Nickie is one of those people who is always serving and giving of themselves. Nickie is married to Mike Miranda and they have two sons. She is part of the leadership of the Militia Immaculata Family Village, has served hospitality countless times, and has been part of the Stewardship Committee.
Nickie has always helped with the decoration in the many events put by the Knights of Columbus. She has designed, planned and implemented the children’s track for our Annual Silent Marian MI Retreats, besides taking part in many other parish events.
Not only is Nickie a great steward, but she is also very talented; I often tease her saying she should have her own decorating show on TV! Everything that she touches, is embellished and turned into a beautiful work of art. However, one of the most impressive qualities that she has is her patience, love and dedication for children. She is one of the catechists in the CGS program (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd), where one can see her love for God’s children at work.
In addition to this, she heads the Parish School of Religion Beautification Project, being done by a generous group of people, adding exquisite Sacred Art to our hallways and classrooms for all to enjoy, while being catechized.
Thank you, Nickie for putting all your
talents at God’s disposal and being
His faithful steward!
Boletín Parroquial en Español! DEL LAPTOP DEL PÁRROCO, Padre Mark
Padre Mark Wagner
Hace unos meses, el Papa Francisco canonizó a l m is ionero franciscano, San Junípero Serra.

¡Gracias Nickie for
corresponsal!
