From the Pastor’s Desk

Today’s gospel tells the post-Resurrection story of our merciful Savior who goes in search of His band of dis-appointed and dejected disciples. The incident proves that Jesus’ post-Resurrection appearances were not mere hallucinations. In the first part of today’s gospel, the risen Jesus appears to His disciples and gives them a symbol of their mission in a miraculous catch of fish followed by a grilled fish breakfast prepared by Jesus. The second part is a dialogue between Jesus and Simon where Simon is asked three times whether he loves Jesus, as if in rep-aration for his triple denial of Jesus. The two metaphors used in the story, namely fishing and shepherding, are the duties of the Church in her missionary work. Peter, as a forgiven sinner, is chosen for the quality of his love to serve as leader in a community of friends. As his primary mission, he is given the care of the vulnerable lambs and sheep, and he is told that fidelity to this mission will lead him to martyrdom.

-Peace, Fr. Russell Kovash

How Will You Leave a Legacy? You can avoid excess taxes by giving certain appre-ciated securities, art, or coin/stamp collections to

St. Joseph’s Parish. This is a very attractive and substantial way to make a memorial gift.

VOLUNTEER WITH ST.

VINCENT DE PAUL Are you interested in helping indi-viduals and families in need? Please contact Tony Fisher 580-0826 if you would like to help with our parish's new ministry to serve the poor. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Cath-

olic lay organization that meets regularly to grow in friendship with God and each other. Springing from this spirituality, we see the face of Christ in those we serve in person-to-person encounters as we follow what Jesus taught us when he said, "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters you do to me."
