“Receive the Holy Spirit.” What a wonderful line from Sacred Scripture. Jesus gives His disciples the Holy Spirit. This event has been called “another Pentecost.” This is what we cele-brate today, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the beginning – the birth – of the Church. It’s no accident that Jesus follows these words with “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” This reminds us of the importance of forgiveness, especially in the Christian life – in life in the Spirit. It also reminds us of the importance of receiving forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconcilia-tion. This is a great gift to us in the Catholic Church. We all need forgiveness from time to time and we all need to forgive from time to time. The Sacrament of Confession allows us to have a new beginning – and to be filled with the Holy Spirit through sanctifying grace. But we must also offer others that same for-giveness, the gift of a fresh beginning. God so generously gives us forgiveness and mercy, we should do likewise. I hope that this return to Mass this weekend and this gift of the outpouring of grace is a great gift for all of you. I hope all of you are able to have the gift of a new beginning. Peace, Fr. Jason Johnston

REFLECTION
In the second reading today, St. Paul reminds the
Corinthians, “There are different gifts, but the same
Spirit; there are different ministries, but the same
Lord.” How am I using my gifts for the common
good?

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit,
we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord. Amen
