Year of ‘We Belong’
Welcome back for the new school year! Each new
school year is exciting as the students are a year older,
little ones are starting for the first time. Parents are excit-
ed and worried about them. Staff wondering how the first
day will go. PHEW! Lots of excitement and trepidation.
However, as you see in the photo much work has been
done to the outside. These renovations will continue.
These renovations really have set the tone of WE BE-
LONG, the first year of the next faith journey - Rooted in
Christ, This school building is St Josaphat Cathedral
Catholic School permanent location. It represent that we
belong to the TCDSB. This year and the years to follow
we will continue this growth together with the Church,
family and school. As our faith tradition is important to
us, Bishop Stephen will be blessing this location on
Wednesday September 19 at 10am. All are welcomed to
join us.

Welcome to our new families to St. Josaphat Cathedral School; welcome back those
families who are returning. The first day of school is always wonderful because of the smiling fac-
es of the children and the eagerness of a positive future.
As the new school year is ushered in, I am delighted to welcome to our school community
all the teachers, new and returning, and support staff. Each educator comes with their own talents
and we look forward to their involvement.
We are truly a blessed community that has witnessed positive growth and change.
Please continue to join us in our journey by joining our parent Catholic School Parent Council
(CSPC). Our meetings will be monthly.
May your families be blessed by our loving God as we journey through this year together.
Most Sincerely,
Ms. L. Ostafichuk

Ukrainian Fees
For our students from grades 1 to 8, Ukrainian classes run for half an hour. This is a
wonderful opportunity for our children to solidify their roots while understanding their heritage that is
rich in history and tradition. Fees need to be paid in order to be able to support such a program. The
church pays the teachers and the fees support the program. Students attending grade 1 to 8 are asked
to pay a yearly rate of $300 per child. Payment by post dated cheques to St. Josaphat Cathedral. Cash
is acceptable. If you have any questions regarding Ukrainian fees, please contact Pani Halina at the
church rectory (416-535-9192).
Keeping all our staff and students safe
We ask that all guests and parents report to the office and sign in before entering the classrooms. Your co-operation
in this matter is appreciated since all children have a right to be safe and feel safe at this school. Thank you.
If your child's bus is late, please call the bus company to inquire
about the status of its time. Please use your child's route number,
not the bus number when speaking with the bus dispatcher.
Якщо шкільний автобус запізнюється, будь ласка,
зателефонуйте в автобусний парк, щоб перевірити час
приїзду. Для цього Ви повинні вказати диспетчеру номер
маршруту, а не номер автобуса.

FROM OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
As part of the TCDSB’s goal of Fostering Student Achievement and Well Being, the Special Services department endeavours to support our special education students in achieving academic excellence and meeting the Ontario Catholic Graduate School Expectations. The department offers a variety of supports to students based on their need(s) and/or identification(s). For further information please visit the Special Services department link: https://www.tcdsb.org/ProgramsServices/SpecialEducation/Pages/default.aspx Parents/caregivers are reminded that if they require support in accessing the Special Services department link, they may ask the school principal for assistance. Alternately, for families who require access to a computer to visit the site, they may access an electronic device through the Toronto Public Library. Parents guide to special education can be found at the following link: https://www.tcdsb.org/ProgramsServices/SpecialEducation/ParentsGuide/Pages/default.aspx
International Languages Program Update The Board of Trustees of the TCDSB voted on July 12, 2018 to maintain the International Lan-
guages Program in 44 elementary schools. Pending Ministry of Education approval, the pro-
gram will be taught for 30 minutes a day, four days a week within the 300-minute school day
for the next school year.
A survey will be distributed to all IL schools in November to determine whether parents wish
to keep the current format or select another alternative delivery method for International Lan-
guages.
The program will also be formally evaluated within the school year and more information will
follow as the year progresses.
All schools will maintain: 60 minutes per day of Mathematics instruction; 60 minutes per day
of Literacy; 30 minutes per day of Religion; 20 minutes of daily physical activity; and the cur-
rent mandatory French program as previously delivered, be it Core French, Immersion or Ex-
tended French. Curriculum Leadership & Innovation staff with be providing resources to as-

Allergy Alert-Sabrina’s Law
(We are a Nut/Allergen Aware School)
As in most other schools in the city, there are children
who suffer from severe and life-threatening allergic
reactions to the ingestion of specific substances such as
peanut and other nut products. This means that
contact or exposure to these products, even in the
smallest quantities, can cause severe life-threatening
reactions. Anaphylaxis is a collection of symptoms
affecting multiple systems in the body. The most com-
mon causes are food and insect stings resulting in
swelling of the airways, shock or drop in blood pres-
sure. We urge that all parents or other caregivers such
as aunts, uncles, grandparents or babysitters who may
prepare lunches or snacks, are
properly informed and alerted to
any food restrictions in your child’s
class.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY
NUTS OR PEANUT PROD-
UCTS TO SCHOOL. LET’S KEEP ALL OUR
