As you know, we are raising funds during Lent for our sister school in Antonci . For those fami-

lies who are new to our school, this fundraising project has been going on for over 20 years at

St. John XXIII. Through the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, we have been twinned

with an elementary school in the town of Antonci in the Dominican Republic. Every year during

the season of Lent, our social justice project is to raise funds for their school. Over the years

we have helped them acquire a well for fresh water, repairs following a hurricane disaster,

books, shelves, paint, windows, gym equipment etc. We don't know yet what the specific goal will

be for this year, but we are already gearing up to help out our friends in any way we can. Be on

the lookout for an Antonci information page update.

day, and to be the hope for the future.

best in her future endeavours.

We say hello to Mrs. Greenaway as she is returning to grade one from her maternity leave.

St. John XXIII’s Public Speaking Results

Page 2

What’s New, St. John XXIII?

We had excellent participation in our school’s Public Speaking contest this year and we congrat-

ulate all the students who made it to the competition in the gym. The results from the competi-

tion are as follows: Primary Division—1st Abbey Murree, 2nd Jake Redmond, Runner Up Emma

Gutz; Junior Division—1st Cole Maisonneuve, 2nd Jordan Tate, Runner Up Allison Niblett.

Abbey, Emma, Allison and Kade Chaput (4th place in junior) represented St. John XXIII at the

Arnprior Legion competition on Family Day Weekend. We are pleased to share that Abbey

placed third in her division. Super work!

An extra special thank you to our volunteer judges: Cheryl Pulcine, Carol Byce and Jane Val-

lentyne and to Mrs. Mulligan & Mrs. Boileau, who organized the school competition.

The first round of the Kindergarten Carnival has been completed. We had 76 very tired stu-

dents after a morning of skating and an afternoon of Zumba! Thank you to all of our parent

volunteers who helped tie skates at the rink. Thank you to Ms. Ogle for running the Zumba

classes and to the Kindergarten team for getting everything organized. Round two will occur

March 6th!

The primary (gr. 1-3) winter trip to the Mill of Kintail was a great success even if we had to

reschedule one of the trips three times. Students enjoyed a day outdoors filled with snow-

shoeing. Thank you to those parents who assisted. In addition, thank you to Mrs. Mulligan for

organizing this event.

The junior ski day has been postponed until Tuesday, March 7th. Let’s pray for snow over the

course of the next week!!!!

News From School Council

Hello Parents,

I just wanted to give you an update on our month of February. Our fundraiser was the dance on

February 9 and I must say it was a great success. I was happy to see the dance floor was busy all

night. The music was great and DJ Cory was very happy to help with our fundraiser and indicated

that he would be happy to come back again if we need a DJ for any other event. I am happy to say

that we made $1000.00 from this event. I want to say Thank You to everyone who helped put this

together and all the effort to make it a fun night for all our families. From what I am hearing many

would like to see another dance at the school so we will have to see what we can do to accommodate

something of this nature again.

Next on the agenda is our biggest fundraiser of the year MAYFEST which is Wednesday, May 17,

2017. More to come on this in April.

We hope you have some fun adventures with your family on March Break and hopefully the weather

will be great to do things outside.

Our next meeting is March 29 from 6-8 in the library. All welcome. Babysitting available upon re-

quest.

Tracey Jeror, Co-Chair

St. John XXIII students are always looking to help end

bullying. We all attempt to be “PINK” and to respect those

around us on a daily basis. This past month, the RCCDSB

Safe Schools Committee held a contest for a new RCCDSB

PINK day/week logo. We are pleased to announce that Cal-

lie Kuehl was the successful artist! Callie wore her T-Shirt

with the new logo on Feb. 22 while others were encouraged

to wear pink. T-shirts will be on sale in the fall for PINK

week.
