ST. JOHN VIANNEY Church
PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE
I just saw a proof of the next Vianney Vine newsletter that will be mailed to all parishioners very soon. Among the articles is a wonderful story of Ron Immesoete’s journey to the Catholic Church. Many thanks to Jan Touney, who does a super job in preparing every issue of the Vianney Vine! As of today, five adults have approached us about participating in our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). We will begin our sessions soon after Labor Day. We need your help! I’ll bet you know of someone who has expressed interest in knowing more about the Catholic faith. It might be a neighbor or friend. It may be your spouse or another member of your extended family. This summer would be a good time for you to “tap them on the shoulder” to see if they would like to know more. It’s an opportunity for you to share with that person why your faith is so special to you. Why do people inquire about the Catholic way of life? From my experience, some are searching for family unity. There is the old adage: “A family that prays together, stays together.” Sometimes children will wonder why mom or dad cross their hearts when they approach the altar for Communion. Some are searching for God, maybe struggling with questions and doubts; or wrestling with the image of God that was instilled in them at childhood. Some may be searching to belong to a faith community that shares the same beliefs and prays together; while offering support and receiving strength from one another. Some are searching for truth. We can help them to learn more from Scripture and the teachings of the Church that can be traced back nearly 2000 years. Some folks may have received the sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist growing up, but for whatever reason, never received the sacrament of Confirmation. We welcome them to our RCIA sessions as well. For more information please contact either Father Ross, Deacon Daryl or me at the church office: 563-332-7910.
We will be hosting a cookout at the rectory for those who are interested in the Catholic way of life on Sunday, July 22, beginning at 5:00pm. Use these coming weeks to think about those who may be interested. It’s an opportunity for you to share your faith journey and extend a welcoming hand to those who are searching. Call the church office to let us know who you are inviting!

2nd Hymn O God, You Search Me Gather #581
1. O God, you search me and you know me. All my thoughts lie open to your gaze.
When I walk or lie down you are before me: Ever the maker and keeper of my
days.
2. You know my resting and my rising. You discern my purpose from afar,
and with love everlasting you besiege me: In every moment of life or death, you
are.
3. Before a word is on my tongue, Lord, You have known its meaning through and
through. You are with me beyond my understanding: God of my present, my past
and future, too.
4. Although your Spirit is upon me, still I search for shelter from your light. There is
nowhere on earth I can escape you: Even the darkness is radiant in your sight.
5. For you created me and shaped me, gave me life within my mother’s womb. For
the wonder of who I am, I praise you: Safe in your hands, all creation is made
new.
