PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear St. Jerome Parishioners, As I write this, our 3-5 graders are packing birthday box-es in the gym. Our K-2 students are at Rosoto Villa play-ing Bingo, and the middle school is at Feed My Starving Children. We are out of our normal routine to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. A big part of Catholic Schools Week is acknowledging and thanking our St. Jerome Church com-munity for the support you provide both financially and behind the scenes. As a parish school we enjoy the bless-ings of intergenerational friendships. We learn from and revel in your stories of your days at St. Jerome, or what it was like for your children. We are the ones today work-ing to make Christ known to the students, but you made that commitment yourselves. And, you continue that commitment with the support provided us from the par-ish.

We See you! We Thank You! ~Scheduling altar servers ~ decorating the church ~ help-ing us with SCRIP ~ finding us a new flag ~ shoveling ~ fixing wires and stuff ~ organizing our festival ~ flipping pancakes ~ hauling leaves ~ praying for us at Adoration ~ singing at Mass ~ keeping the grounds looking so lovely ~ attending our special events ~ writing to outreach bud-dies ~ donating food for our pantry ~ donating toward our preschool materials ~ keeping up the Adoration chapel ~ serving on committees and SO MANY other ways that you show up for our parish and our school.

As our school’s leader, I feel your support and your love for our students, and I thank you with a full heart. Please join us on Sunday after the 8:30 and 10:30 masses for a Pancake Breakfast. We’ll have students, school par-ents and staff on hand to personally thank you for your support. Most sincerely, Anne McNeill Gattman, Principal

Dear Brothers and Sisters, It is hard to believe that the first month of the year is about to finish. In three weeks we will jour-ney through Lent. For now let us continue to recall the stories of Je-sus’ public life and learn about him. Jesus began his public life in Galilee

teaching, preaching and curing the sick. Central in his work was preaching and teaching. His miracles support the first. In the gospel reading on the third Sunday in ordi-nary time we hear Jesus’ preaching: “Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.” Repentance is the first mes-sage in Jesus’ preaching. Jesus is teaching us that re-pentance is the first word in the task of following Jesus. He told his disciples that in order to follow him they must “deny yourself and take up your cross” To repent means to embrace the cross of Christ. The follow-ing of his disciples begins with repentance. In the human perspectives to repent means to die from our sins. As we embark a new life, first, we have to die from our old self. The process is like carrying our own cross and later die in order that the new self will burst forth. Wasn’t that the passion of Christ? Yes, every spiritual journey begins with repent-ance. We all know that the resurrection of Christ begins with his carrying of the cross. Who wants to die? Who wants to go to heaven? Fr. Vic
