Sunday Reading ReflectionMerry Christmas. I am in shock and overwhelmed not at the fire, I am shocked and overwhelmed at the goodness of you all. God loves to bring good things out of bad situations. I can’t begin to tell you how many cards, notes, acts of service, things, and support I have received. My hands are healing fast. There are tons of things that have to be attended to. There are many people helping. I wish I had time to tell all the stories and name all the names. I will name one and tell the story as a token. Mr. Belcher has worked for hours and hours to make a safe and beautiful place for me to stay over in St. Joseph’s rectory. He has eight children and I thank him and his wife for the quiet and profound love they are showing. Believe it or not I have a million of these stories since the fire. The trauma of seeing the fire, trying to put it out, smelling the plasticky smoke in my body for days, my wounded hands, sense of loss and bewilderment, are systematically being replaced by hands healing well, reassurance, expressions of gratitude even from families I served long ago, the smell of new paint, seeing the beauty of so many cards, and again things so numerous I can’t begin to list them all. One thing I’ll say as another token of the good is Deacon Chuck Kelley’s untiring devotion and faithfulness. Thank you Deacon Chuck and family.

and of Herod, worldly powers taking note of this baby. All that is in heaven, on earth, and under the earth have since then, now, and always will, bow to love revealed fully in Christ the baby. Some forces worship with gifts and some worship with antagonism. Herod and the devil can’t ignore the Christ Child but their vain attempts are stupid. In the end they only succeed in bringing about the Resurrection.

The love is burning hotter and brighter than the evil fire of destruction. The beauty of the historic building is already replaced with a fireproof and eternal monument of love that God has given through you to me and the world.

Other Notes The names and numbers of the people on the staff on page two are still valid. We should still have Last Rites, confessions, mass cards, and weekday and Sunday mass schedules as normal. God is good.

All of the Sacramental Records (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage and Death) have been recovered from St. John’s Rectory.

If you know of a Mass Intention that you had scheduled at St. John’s, please contact Mary Best to have the Intention put back on the schedule. We did lose those in the fire.

About the St. John’s Holiday Lottery - all of the holiday lottery card tickets were lost in the fire.

All of the records of Offertory and other envelope contributions are processed offsite and were not lost. Letters of contributions for 2020 tax purposes will be available in the new year.
