A message from our priests
Dear parishioners of St James and St Michael,
This Sunday, we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday. This calls to mind that “the Lord is my shep-herd” as we hear that famous psalm 23 this weekend. Jesus is truly the Good shepherd who makes us “lie down in green pastures” and leads us “beside still waters.”
However, if we reflect on our current situation, we may feel like he is leading us to ‘brown de-serts’ and ‘empty streams.’ We may feel like the shepherd has abandoned us.
Yet the beauty of psalm 23 is that there is hope even in the midst of suffering: “even though I walk through the darkest valley I fear no evil; for you are with me.” These words are poignant for our time because we are certainly in a dark moment of our modern history, but psalm 23 reminds us that we should fear no evil for God is with us.
Jesus is Emmanuel, God-with-us, and so we should have no fear despite the fact that the paths that he us leading through are unfamiliar. We are invited today and always to make an act of faith and trust that He is the Good Shepherd who quietly and mysteriously guides us to the house of the Lord where we may dwell forever and ever.
God bless, Fr Troy Nguyen
