With its parish share, St. JamesCathedral intends to create a beautiful new prayer space and columbarium on the cathedral’s north side.
PRAYER GARDEN AND COLUMBARIUM$450,000-$600,000As part of the Called to Serve as Christ Campaign, 15% of every gift comes back to St. James Cathedral. Once we have met our $3.2 million parish goal, 85% of each gift is returned to the Cathedral.
With these funds, our plan is to do some long-needed work on the north side of the Cathedral, along Marion Street. We intend to turn that long-neglected area into a prayer garde – a place of peace and beauty which we hope will eventually house a columbarium. Parishioners will be able to have their loved ones interred close to our beloved Cathedral. The plan is for niches for cremated remains to be available for purchase, and for the columbarium to be administered by Catholic Cemeteries.
The estimated cost of this project will be approximately $450,000-$600,000 (final figures are still pending). This may bring our total archdiocesan and parish goal for the campaign to $3,400,000.

OUR PARISH CAMPAIGN GOAL: $3,232,571All gifts to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign will support pension and medical needs of priests and sisters. In addition, fifteen cents of every dollar collected by the Cathedral will be used to address our needs. When we exceed our campaign goal, eighty-five cents of each dollar raised will be returned to our parish.
