The Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 21, 2020

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, At the beginning of our Gospel this week, the twelve apostles are sent out on a mission from Jesus. They have been told by Jesus not to fear. In the time of the COVID – 19, we continue to live in fear. Only Jesus can give us peace. The challenge for us is to go to the prince of peace when we face fear in our lives. This is the time to exercise our faith, in the midst of fear. There will be several capital repair and improvement projects that are currently on the schedule at STHY this summer. First, we have are the repairing HVAC AC Unit system to the Guyot Hall Kitchen at a cost of $6429.69 Next, there is a plan to seal coat the “P” Street parking lot at a cost of $10,700. Next, we have to replace the several of the lighting fixtures due to electrical shorting and arcing in the Religious Education building and Guyot Hall classrooms at a cost of $6500. Next we have to repair the Guyot Hall freezer for a cost of $1000. Finally, as you know, the boiler to the Church is no longer working and we have been advised that it is not able to be repaired due to its age. We are exploring several avenues to provide heat to the Church and classrooms for the winter. We have received one proposal for a Church heating system at the cost of $30,000. We will keep you informed of the progress on this proposal. One of our major goals for our parish is to increase the number of people using our electronic formats for the dissemination of information from our parish. We have our website: Sthyacinth.org, which is updated almost daily with information about the activities that go on in the parish. There is Flocknotes, which is our information delivery service for the parish, in which we email and/or text information about the activities of the parish. Go to Flocknote.com/sthyhouston and join the group “Parishioners”. We are on Facebook, go and ‘like’ our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/StHyacinthchurch With the Coronavirus affecting every aspect of the Church I want to challenge everyone to continue to support the Church during this time. I ask the faithful to continue to support the St Hyacinth community through on-line giving or by mail. This will ensure that our parish will be able to meet payrolls and pay monthly bills. Go to online giving tab at Sthyacinth.org and either enroll online at www.faithdirect.net. Our Church Code is TX526, or give online through PayPal, Text to Give or simply mail in your contribution to the Church with the address being 2921 Center Street. Thank you for your support. Finally, let’s congratulate the young people who celebrated their first Eucharist in our community last weekend. This is the first of several first communion masses that will be held over the next few weeks. Please keep the young people of our parish in your prayers. The celebration of the sacraments, with a congregation, has now resumed. In keeping with the directives issued by Cardinal DiNardo, and in accordance with national, state and local mandates, St. Hyacinth will resume liturgical celebrations in the following manner: • Dispensation from Sunday obligation to attend in person is extended until further notice, especially with respect to people who may be considered physically well to attend yet believe it best to stay at home.

• The at-risk populations are encouraged to continue participating by tuning in to the YouTube livestreamed Mass on our parish website Sthyacinth.org, from their homes and avoid attending Mass in person. At-risk population is defined as those who are 65 years or older, those with chronic lung disease; moderate to severe asthma; chronic heart disease; severe obesity; diabe-tes; chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis; or weakened immune system.

• Parishioners are asked to take their temperatures before coming to Mass and should not attend, if exhibiting any signs of illness or an elevated body temperature.

• In order to accommodate social distancing protocols, and to abide by Phase One state regulations, no more than 25% of the mandated fire code seating capacity of the building is allowed. Therefore, each Mass at St. Hyacinth will be limited to no more than 125 people. • Church doors will be open for 15 minutes before Mass is to begin. Church doors will open Sat-

urday 4:45 pm, Sunday 7:45 am, 9:45 am and 11:45 am. Please stay in your cars until the doors are open for the Church.

• The Church Narthex will serve as the ONLY entrance to the Church. Enter Narthex doors from either the Center Street parking lot or the P street parking lot.

• Parishioners are required to wear masks, upon entering the church and throughout the celebration of the Mass.

• For the safety of all, the Holy Water fonts and Holy Water tank will remain empty, the exchange of the Sign of Peace, the distribution of the Precious Blood and the offertory procession will be omitted and missalettes and hymnals will not be available.

• Parishioners should be careful not to gather too closely when entering or leaving the church.

• Hand sanitizers will be available and easily visible at the church entrances.

• Social distancing will be practiced and enforced.

• Parishioners will be seated in every other pew.

• Those of the same household can be seated in the same pew.

• Priests and Deacons will wear masks during the distribution of Holy Communion.

• The congregation will remain in their pews for the distribution of Holy Communion, which prevents the formation of a Communion line.

• For health and safety reasons, parishioners are asked to receive Holy Communion in the hand.

• The church will be closed for sanitation between Masses. Pews and bathrooms will be sanitized thoroughly between Masses. God Bless, Fr. Reginald Samuels

A prayer for Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are

present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things and I desire to receive you

in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you

sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were

already there and unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

PRAYER IN A TIME OF PANDEMIC O God of compassion, your people are anxious in this time of pandemic. Send your Holy Spirit among us to dispel our fears. We cry out to you in our confusion;

comfort us in our affliction. Grant our leaders wisdom to guide us. Strengthen and sustain those who are ill,

and be with those who care for them. Help us to travel this road in solidarity with our neighbors, with our eyes fixed on the salvation

promised us through the death and resurrection of your Son, who is Lord forever and ever.

Amen. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Reading 1 Jer 20:10–13 Jeremiah said: “I hear the whisperings of many: ‘Terror on every side! Denounce! let us denounce him!’ All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. ‘Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.’ But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph. In their failure they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion. O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause. Sing to the LORD, praise the LORD, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked!” Responsorial Psalm Ps 69:8–10, 14, 17, 33–35 R. (14c) Lord, in your great love, answer me. For your sake I bear insult, and shame covers my face. I have become an outcast to my brothers, a stranger to my children, Because zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me. R. Lord, in your great love, answer me. I pray to you, O LORD, for the time of your favor, O God! In your great kindness answer me with your constant help. Answer me, O LORD, for bounteous is your kindness; in your great mercy turn toward me. R. Lord, in your great love, answer me.

“See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, may your hearts revive! For the LORD hears the poor, and his own who are in bonds he spurns not. Let the heavens and the earth praise him, the seas and whatever moves in them!” R. Lord, in your great love, answer me. Reading 2 Rom 5:12–15 Brothers and sisters: Through one man sin entered the world, and through sin, death, and thus death came to all men, inasmuch as all sinned—for up to the time of the law, sin was in the world, though sin is not accounted when there is no law. But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin after the pattern of the trespass of Adam, who is the type of the one who was to come. But the gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, how much more did the grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ overflow for the many. Gospel Mt 10:26–33 Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no one. Nothing is con-cealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the house-tops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. Are not two spar-rows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.”
