Chili, Part IBeautifully mild fall weather,

large crowds, and the famous Dragon’sBreath and Dragon’s Fire chili were apowerful combination at the 25thAnnual Belleville Chili Cook-off. Ourkitchen team, led by David Buckley, prepared 125 gallons of chili, the mostSt. George’s has ever made. The chilistand team, led by Tom Boschert, soldout of that popular white chili beforeseven o’clock Saturday evening. Thegross income from our chili stand was$7,187.83. Income after expenses was$4,775.89.

At their October meeting theVestry voted to give the FranklinNeighborhood Community Association(FNCA) and the St. George’s EpiscopalYouth Community (EYC) each 50percent of the net income, which was$1600 more than last year’s.

The kitchen team received greatsupport from the FNCA and and severalparishioners both Friday and Saturday.Family groups, individuals, and thegreater St. George’s EYC put in longhours at our Great White Chili stand.Father Dale helped both days andbecame proficient at serving chili. While the Chili Cook-off required long

hours from several people, everyonewould say that the experience wasenjoyable. The crowd was friendly andthe weather was beautiful.

Besides chili, the had sold kids’meals, chips, hot dogs, and water, whichsold well. The only thing that didn’t sellwas hot spiced apple cider; the weatherwas too warm. Once again, our chilididn’t win any ribbons, but we keepwinning loyalty of customers who lookfor us year after year.

The chili stand had several itemsto share with customers besides food.More than one hundred invitations to theBlessing of the Animals were given out.And more than a hundred St. George’schili dragon cards were given away, aswell as a few painter’s caps and manyangel wings for the kids. We got ourname out there. Maybe we should call it“evangelism lite”!

NEWS & NOTES
