Family Unity Night Wednesday, August 15th: At this Family Unity Night (FUN), we welcomed our new Family Unity Couple for the 2017-2018 fraternal year, Adam and Brandi Vasquez. We are looking forward to an active year as Adam and Brandi, together with their children Lexi and Austin, lead our group. As you know, the Knights of Columbus recently recognized the Vasquez Family as the New Mexico State Family of the Year. They have been a big help in all of our council and parish activities. We are blessed to have the Vasquez Family as part of our church/council family. We would like to welcome all families from the St. Genevieve community to our monthly potluck dinner and socialization at the parish hall. You don’t have to be a Knight or a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to attend; all are welcome! If you have visitors, bring them with you. If you can, bring your favorite dish or a dessert to share. If, for any reason, you can’t bring food, still bring yourselves, as there is always enough food. This coming month, we will have a council picnic on Sunday, September 17th…Watch for details!

Regulars Gilbert and Mary Lou Perez were there. Gilbert provides PGK Jesus and Toni Frietze enjoyed the evening. all the K of C Councils in NM with lots of information Toni looks wonderful after her kidney transplant surgery.

“One of the most beautiful things in life, in the family, in our lives, is caressing a child and letting yourself be caressed by a grandfather or a grandmother” Pope Francis Former Knights of Columbus Squire Christian Corral and His Family: Christian Corral was one of the first members of our John Paul II Columbian Squires Circle 5740. At that time, he volunteered to help at many Knights of Columbus activities, and was a star football player at Centennial High School. Since then, Christian has slimmed down from his football weight, and is starting at NMSU this fall. He has volunteered to help us again to run the Kid’s Games at this year’s parish fiesta.

A Tribute to the Parents and Grandparents of St. Genevieve Parish who Bring Their Children and Grandchildren to Mass: The theme for this year’s St. Genevieve Parish Fiesta is “St. Genevieve Church, a Family who Values our Grandparents”. Father Rogelio has taught us that it is within our homes, the “Domestic Church”, that we learn to love. We had the opportunity to take some photos of parents and grandparents sharing Mass with their children and grandchildren. You should recognize some members of the St. Genevieve Family in the photos below.

This is Brother Daniel Seltzer, with his wife and sister-in- This proud Grandfather brings his grandchildren law and the little ones Jude and Anna to the 9:30 Mass at St. Genevieve’s every Sunday.

INSURANCE AGENT’S MESSAGE

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month

Each September since 2003 has been designated as Life Insurance Awareness Month. Like most awareness-raising campaigns, Life Insurance Awareness Month was created because there is an overwhelming lack of understanding of life insurance, its uses, its benefits, and its variations among the general public. Each year, the Life Insurance Market Research Association (LIMRA) puts out the results from a recent survey, and unfortunately, the numbers they report continue to be discouraging.

A recent survey found that more than 75 percent of people polled did not have a personal financial advisor, even though 68 percent of them said their opinion of the current economic conditions was somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable.

In other words, a majority of those surveyed were uncomfortable with the economy and the uncertainty it brings, yet they did not seek professional assistance. Maybe they spoke with their friends and family. Maybe they hoped the instability would go away on its own. Maybe they did not know to whom to turn.

If you fall into this category, please remember that as a member of the Knights of Columbus, you have a full-time, professional agent you can call your own. For over six years now, my primary responsibility has been the care and service of your family’s life insurance, retirement and long-term care needs. I’ll answer your questions because I want your decisions to be informed ones. I want to help.

Another LIMRA statistic said 43 percent of people did not buy life insurance because they worry about “making the wrong decision.” Talk with me, your Brother Knight, and your agent, and, afterwards, you’ll understand that the only wrong decision was not purchasing sooner to protect your family’s future.

A Letter from Past Scholarship Winner, Alexis Padilla: St. Genevieve Knights of Columbus c/o Jaime M. Flores Dear Mr. Flores: I would like to say thank you to the St. Genevieve Knights of Columbus for awarding me a scholarship to help pay for my attendance at the University of New Mexico. I am extremely grateful for the scholarship you all have provided me with. The things I have been able to accomplish in my first year here at the University and in the Albuquerque community, wouldn’t be possible without the support from the Knights of Columbus. I just finished my first year here at UNM, and will be starting my second year in August! I completed my first year with a 3.3 GPA, taking 17 credit hours, volunteering, holding leadership roles in both my scholarship association, and sorority, while also being able to study abroad for 5 weeks. I traveled to Cusco, Peru in late May- June to participate in an intense study aboard program followed by a week trip to Costa Rica. I was enriched with the culture that both South and Central America has to offer and I cannot wait for my future travels in Latin America, as well as the world. I was able to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, which is nearly 30 miles in four days. It was an amazing experience for me spiritually, mentally, and physically. All of these things were possible because of the support I have received from St. Genevieve’s Knights of Columbus Council 13969. This coming semester I will be a completely full-time student taking 18 credit hours, working two jobs, volunteering, and holding leadership roles in my community. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your support and to share my extreme gratitude to you all. It was truly an amazing first year, one to remember. I am very blessed! Thank you again for the generosity of the Knights of Columbus Council 13969. Sincerely, Alexis M. Padilla-Torres

THE PARISH FIESTA is to be held on September 9 – 10: The 2017 St. Genevieve Parish Fiesta will be here soon. The Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Auxiliary have played a major role in the fiesta over the years. For example, last year’s records show that 31of the 52 volunteers (60%) who signed in were Knights of Columbus or Ladies Auxiliary members. This year, we are responsible for the Kid’s Games and Prize Booth, the ticket tables, and the Fiesta Book. In addition, many of our Brothers and Ladies either run or work at various food and game booths. Since the fiesta runs both Saturday and Sunday, this takes a lot of people. Do the math…there are lots of booths and activities, and each takes at least two people at all times. LOTS MORE PEOPLE ARE NEEDED TO MAKE THE FIESTA A SUCCESS. You new Brothers and Ladies, and those of you who have not helped in the past…STEP UP. YOUR PARISH NEEDS YOU!
