Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20

“I am with you always, until the end of the age."

Gospel Teaching: Matthew’s Gospel has the eleven returning to Galilee after the Resurrection where they see Jesus at the top of a mountain. In the same way that they received a com-mission from Jesus in Mark’s Gospel of two weeks ago, and John’s Gospel last week, Jesus tells them “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations”. He provid-ed the words that are used to this day to bring people into the church – “baptizing them in the name of the Fa-ther, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. They are to teach the people “to observe all that I have commanded you.”

On Wednesday May 30th at 6pm, there will be

Altar Server training for those students who re-

ceived First Holy Communion on May 5th.

If you are interested in being trained, please go to our web site: www.stfrancishhi.org and click on

“Ministries and Organizations”, then “Liturgical”, and then “Altar Server” . Please fill in the form to RSVP. The forms and informa-tional booklet are available on the site for you to download. The training will be limited to the first 10 that sign up. If you have any questions, please e-mail Colleen at [email protected]

after their grieving period, to get on with their lives after the loss of a

loved one— by fostering new friendships with those in the same life

situation, and providing social, spiritual, athletic and cultural activities

on a monthly basis. We recognize that there are individuals suffering

the pain of social isolation resulting from the death of a spouse, or the

loss of a loved one as a consequence of divorce, relocation, or other

trauma such as confinement of a loved one to an institution due to a

debilitating disease.

The objective of Light of Life is to offer individuals the oppor-

tunity to re-enter the social structure by participating in activities that

“where there is sadness – bring joy” – including, but not limited to. din-

ners , theatre trips, art shows, weekends away, cruises, cultural events,

river cruises and other fun experiences.

The MAY general meeting of Light of Life, will be held on

THURSDAY, MAY 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the Family Center at St. Francis

by the Sea.

Attention Graduating Seniors

The Diocese of Charleston has partnered with The Newman Connection in an effort to connect graduating seniors in our diocese with the campus ministry pro-grams at colleges and universities throughout South

Carolina. It is critically important that we pursue every possible opportunity to connect our graduates with the Catholic resources available at their college or university. We must keep them engaged in the faith and help these young adults personally encounter Christ and His unending love. Studies have shown that young adults re-spond to personal invitations from college campus ministry. Students/families may enter this information through a Survey Mon-key link that will be directly provided to The Newman Connection. None of this personal information will be shared. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DHY3Z6D It is our prayer that, through this effort, we can bridge the gap be-tween youth ministry and college campus ministry. This is an oppor-tunity to help our students truly experience the Living Lord! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Anne Durney in the Office of Stewardship and Mission Advancement [email protected] or 843-261-0437.

RETIREMENT GOOD WISHES:

Mrs. Mitzi Weaver, our Director of Religious Education of 16 years, will be retiring effec-tive July 1st. Mrs. Weaver has coordinated Faith Formation and Sacramental prepara-tion for children in PRE-K4 through High School. She has also served as Safe Envi-ronment Coordinator for the Parish and

School since 2005. She has coordinated our Lenten Missions and Penance services and worked with the various groups, like Bible Study, to ensure they had the resources to support our adults in faith formation. We wish her well in her retire-ment. She said, “St. Francis has been like home since first arriving on the island in 2001. I am not leaving but will be ex-ploring ways to support the parish as a volunteer”.

****************************

On June 3 you will have an opportunity to extend your person-al good wishes to Mitzi at Fellowship Sunday after the 10:30 Mass. Please stop by the family center for cake and coffee.

Knights Chalice Program History.

Sixteen years ago, the Knights began a Chalice for

Vocations Program. A Knight accepts a chalice into his

home for one week and prays daily with his family for vocations. The Chalice

is then passed along to another Knight. From time to time the chalice ex-

change occurs at Sunday Mass.

This chalice has been in continuous circulation since 2002- every day from

the very beginning, a Knight has prayed for vocations.

Most Holy Trinity

261 The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mys-tery of the Christian faith and of Christian life. God alone can make it known to us by revealing himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 262 The Incarnation of God's Son reveals that God is the

eternal Father and that the Son is consubstantial with the Father, which means that, in the Father and with the Father the Son is one and the same God. 263 The mission of the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father in the name of the Son (Jn

14:26) and by the Son "from the Father" (Jn 15:26), reveals that, with them, the Spirit is one and the same God. "With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified" (Nicene Creed). 264 "The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father as the first principle and, by the eter-nal gift of this to the Son, from the communion of both the Father and the Son" (St. Augustine, De Trin. 15, 26, 47: PL 42, 1095). 265 By the grace of Baptism "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit", we are called to share in the life of the Blessed Trinity, here on earth in the obscurity of faith, and after death in eternal light (cf. Paul VI, CPG § 9). 266 "Now this is the Catholic faith: We worship one God in the Trinity and the Trinity in unity, without either confusing the persons or dividing the substance; for the per-son of the Father is one, the Son's is another, the Holy Spirit's another; but the Godhead of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is one, their glory equal, their majesty coeternal" (Athanasian Creed: DS 75; ND 16). 267 Inseparable in what they are, the divine persons are also inseparable in what they do. But within the single divine operation each shows forth what is proper to him in the Trinity, especially in the divine missions of the Son's Incarnation and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

St. Francis Outreach Ministry is the social outreach arm of the St. Francis by the Sea Par-ish. The ministry aids individuals in need.

The important ministry is funded by the parish and staffed by volun-teers. We are here to help in case of emergencies which make it difficult to pay monthly bills. All requests are confidential. The main focus is assistance for rent and utilities, but many times we are able to help with other needs. We work closely with other Island agencies if we are unable to meet a specific need. If you, or anyone you know needs assistance, or, if you wish to volun-teer, contact us at 843-681-2112. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 9 to 12 am. We are closed on holidays. We are located at 15 Hospital Center Commons, Suite 100E off Bill Fries Drive or Hospital Blvd.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom and for those who currently serve in our military. May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the families of our troops, and fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace. Amen
